This is definitely the best-case, optimistic view. I hope it works out.
I've said it elsewhere, but were Semien even 30 rather than 35, I'd be all-in on this, as hard as it is to see Nimms go after all this time. But at this age ...
But hey, if Marcus comes in and plays a stellar second base and gives us a decent enough showing at the plate and paves the way for the next generation (and to be honest, I would have been fine with either Acuña or Williams getting their shot right now, preferably Luisangel), then it could be all to the good.
In any event, Happy Thanksgiving, my fellow Metsies! 🦃
This deal is say for shadows Pete coming back. Semien’s range keeps Pete at whatever line they draw that he should never cross going for a ball. This also opens up every wish list player any Mets fan can think of in free agency to fill that outfield position opened up with Brandon leaving. The combinations are certainly vast.
I'm very optimistic about Semien. He seemed to be OK at the plate in the second half last year and the stats show him hitting lots more homers in NY than in TX. And that glove work with Lindor up the middle! Like the idea of Pete DH'g more and not going so much to his right for balls.
I know there's hope for this troubled world when I read "Frostian crossroad" on a baseball blog. The next domino? Bellinger or Tucker, either acquisition would be a massive. Benge can work his way in.
I don't see any motivation for the Padres to trade him. They're contenders and he's a great player. The speculation I've seen is solely based on the team being for sale and the as-yet-to-be-identified new ownership may be interested in cutting payroll. Seems to me to be grasping at straws...I suspect it's something some pundit dreamed up.

Maybe deal for Tatis?

You're probably right, although I hear there are financial problems in SD. Can't hurt to make them an offer and try to get him.
