This lineup except Pete & Torrens is tough to watch right now. I agree about Nimmo. He looks terrible. People point to his baseball savant looking good but he doesn’t pass the eye test. That being said, that terrible call at first that we couldn’t challenge cost us the game.

He's been a big part of this team for a while. Let's hope for a recovery...he does look really bad.

We had a similar problem last year and eventually straightened it out. Or at least got enough RISP to make it work.

Once it warms up, I'm pretty sure the bats will too.

I think the only thing we can be sure of at this point is Baty, which hurts to say. He's a good kid who's tried so hard, and he had a stellar spring, which I'm sure got his hopes up. But he just cannot drive the ball at the major league level right now.

What kills me is, the skill is there. But I think he needs to break down his swing and rebuild it. I very, very rarely advocate for an open stance on the basis of it being too complicated; the fewer moving parts, the better.

But in Baty's case, maybe what he needs is to move around a little more in the batter's box and have something to distract him from thinking about starting his swing. He's so still as the pitch is being delivered, he may be TOO still -- he pulls the trigger just a millisecond late, all the time.

Open up, force him to move his foot in to close up and start his swing, and maybe he'll start to just react and "see ball, hit ball."

polar opposite of clutch. I see what you did there!

In all seriousness, this problem plagues the Mets for many seasons. I'd rather see them try for a higher average, especially Nimmo. While many in baseball scoff at batting average, not ONE of them scoffs at Ted Williams or Babe Ruth.

Also, Messers Judge and Alonso, two serious power hitters, are starting out scorching hot. Look at their averages. You CAN do both.

Why can't the Mets just bunt to advance runners since they have no idea how to drive ball to opposite field to advance runners.

I knew Soto wouldn't be enough for this lineup. The Mets STILL don't have professional clutch hitters now. If the pitching inevitably falters its gonna be a rough ride. Think Rangers/Islanders.

If you knew that then you're smarter than most pundits out there! Most of us thought they would be an offensive powerhouse. Close your eyes and imagine that Alvarez blossoms, Nimmo returns to his days of obp .382, Vientos duplicates last year, and Soto is Soto. Throw in a McNeil that remembers how to hit and we'll run the table. Just kidding.

Don't say that. Extremely painful season for Rangers fans. I'll admit that going into the season I thought the pitching was dubious and the offense would power the team...I'm not the only one.
