I really liked what we saw from Sproat last night. The concerns I had about his delivery are gone. He looked good and smooth and stress-free. I'll happily eat that plate of crow.
But the innings concerns about our three young stars are real, especially considering how much higher the leverage is down the stretch and in the postseason. We don't want to destroy the future. Ideally the veterans get sorted and we won't have to worry about it. But what are the chances?
I think DP will be okay. He's just slumping. But at any time he can get right and start cranking out seven solid consistently again (let's hope that's the case). That would solve a lot of problems.
Clay has done about all we could have asked. He's averaging a little over 5 IP per start after converting from the 'pen at 32 years of age, pitching to his career ERA, and leading the staff in wins. That's awfully damn good. The negative: he could hit a wall at any time.
Which brings us to the real problem: Senga and Manaea. I'm convinced Sean's problem is his elbow, and he's not going to be 100 percent until next year, after some off-season surgery to clean it up. We can't count on much the rest of the way; he's certainly not going to be the guy he was down the stretch last year.
Senga is the key. If we're going deep in the playoffs, he needs to step up. It has to be win day when he toes the rubber every time in every short series. He needs to pitch like an ace and a leader. No fussing around, no tweaking and tinkering — just going after hitters.
This team is just destined to make things interesting. The Mets never do anything the “easy” way. I suspect they will lose enough to let more than one team back into the race only to need a win or two with 3 games left to clinch. Mebbe they do. Mebbe they don’t. Luckily I love college football more than the pros because both NY football teams will be horrible this year and should keep me with interested in baseball until the season ends.
Those innings limits are arbitrary numbers so I think they can pass them as long as it’s not by a crazy amount. We have no choice but to keep pitching them
He pitched well enough to get a W. Again situational hitting which has been a problem all year in close games bites them in the rear once again. Add 7 - 10 wins to their record over the course of the season, and things look very different in the standings.

Show us what you really got, Kodai.

Of course I'd like to see the Mets in playoffs, but maybe if they DO NOT make it, their weaknesses will be addressed. Better in the long run, no?
I think it's gonna get addressed regardless.
Concur. Can’t make chicken soup outta chicken crap

Throw 'em til' their arms fall off.
