Just like with the Rangers, the “core” isn’t good enough and the young guys aren’t stars. I honestly think we’re missing leadership in the clubhouse. Who’s the guy who’s going to get into his teammates faces and show some fire?

Lindor seemed to be that guy, but I guess his lack of production precludes his getting into teammates' faces.

Mondo was never that guy and will never be that guy

Lindor would never get in somebody’s face - he always keeps his one foot in his future. “I’m the smile guy and get along w everybody “ is his mantra

Mets do not have 1 player that has enough Xxxx to get into players’ faces

From everything I’ve heard he’s more of a lead by example guy. He’s not a rah rah guy.

So much space and so few words ... but I'll try.

The Mets haven't become a bad baseball team; they've been a bad baseball team that happened to hwin enough games earlier in the season to fool us.

When Baty, the #8 batter walked to open the 3rd inning and arguably the worst hitter on the team, Torrens coming to bat and the top of the order looming, the situation screamed, "BUNT". But the "Big Inning Whisperer" had Carlos' ear and a double play ensued, followed by Lindor's HR.

The bottom 5 spots in the lineup went 0 for 16 with just Baty's walk as their offensive contribution.

They lost to a pitcher with a 6 plus ERA who went 7 innings and gave up just 2 runs.

The NFL, NHL and NBA will bridge the gap to spring training where we'll have to memorize a whole bunch of new player's numbers.

The Mets can make middling and journeymen pitchers look like Dan Glavine of 90s Braves lore

I have said several times - where is the bunt where is the hit and run , where is the hit the ball where it is pitched where is the foul off the ball to protect plate?

Smug Sterns is the daddy of this team

We're a good team playing bad baseball. And I think the main culprit is injuries to the pitching: Manaea, Montas (who was an unfathomable signing, but leave that aside for now), Senga, Canning, Blackburn, Megill, Minter, Young, Kranick, Núñez ... imagine all those guys healthy for the whole season and pitching to form, and we look a lot different right now. And never mind guys like Drew Smith and Christian Scott, who weren't available at all.

And it starts with pitching. I don't think anyone expected Soto to be 30 bips below his career slash line at this point in the year, but it happens. Or Lindor to get whacked on the big toe and have to fight through that for the balance of the year, but things like that happen too. If we're pitching and staying in games and holding leads — like we were before June 13 — we're still winning games.

But if your starters can't get out of the fifth inning and the bullpen keeps imploding, it almost doesn't matter how much you're hitting, because you can't slug your way out of it. And if you know your starters can't go deep and your bullpen can't hold a lead, you're going to press at the plate and not hit anyway. You're going to press out in the field and make mistakes too, like Soto not hitting the cutoff man on the Albies double (I don't think we were getting Harris anyway, but still — FUNDIES).

Now we're in a position where we absolutely must sweep the Mariners this weekend, or we're cooked. And they're coming in with ... wait for it ... three solid, professional starters backed by a consistently effective bullpen. We're running a rookie out there for his first career start on Saturday against a guy who has pitched at least six innings in every single start this season (see, it can be done).

If ever there was a time to channel 1973 and "You Gotta Believe," this is it.

The Mets will be lucky to win 1 game vs. Mariners.

Easy to think that going in. They're a really good team with solid pitching all around and some guys who can really hit. But thankfully McLean stepped up today and pitched like a pro is supposed to.

Harvey and Steve hit it on the head. This was always a bad team but we felt from last year we were going to cruise to the NLCS which would now owe us as the Mets went out and got the biggest FA in the game. There must be something in that clubhouse. My question is would Buck allow this to happen? He showed them how to win and he gets shoved aside for Boone2? Mendy is making the same decisions Boone does and has almost the same demeanor to me. The problem Mendy has is he never made it to the bigs so I think there is a disconnect there. He almost can’t be a tough guy as they all know he never did it. It might not be a problem 10 years from now but he’s early in his career and it is showing. Should this team keep up its play they have a chance to lose 100 games. If that happens doesn’t the house need to be cleaned? Maybe Hefner stays but for a guy so highly renowned around the league what’s he shown this year? How’s that pitching lab crunching the numbers this year? I’d also raise another point about our minor league talent. Why can’t the Mets produce guys? We see and hear about all these guys who are incredible in the minors and they come up and shit the bed. The Mets haven’t produced anything from the organization in years especially pitchers. Hoping McLean goes 7 innings and saves this rotation is unfair to the kid. They should have made these moves months ago. If this team turns it around and I find that highly unlikely it would be a story to tell for generations.

Mendoza might call a team meeting and flat out say that If the players don't step up their game....there will be major f*cking changes next year. Get their attention.

This is a rant on Mendoza. I think he got way too much credit for last year (we would not have needed a miracle run if team had come out gate early). How long is going to wait for people to play up to their baseball cards.. He plays a passive game, and it is obvious that the name players are runnng the team. Even GKR are getting on Soto for his lack of defensive awareness. And where was Raley last night. I am not hating on Rogers, but that was a spot for Raley, to turn Braves hitter to weaker side. And in the 8th, with 3 of the next 5 hitters being lefties, he brings in Helsely, who is not sharp. Org has problem with how they are developing pitchers, and Mendoza has all the confidence in Clay Walker, who as proven he cant start over the last 3 months.

Yawn …. Excuses excuses. Ik if it makes you feel better but you are fooling only yourself

2nd tier pitching doesn’t become an ACE staff. Enough with the magical pitching lab - start with an ACE and make him even better.

I think we are looking at an expensive getting pitchers off the same rack and the then believing in magic

I'm not going to jump off the train though there is a lot to fix as we move into September. If the guys 1-7 do their jobs and produce runs, hopefully with an infusion of young arms that are able to pitch smart, and get the relievers to do their job and not ask for them to do more than a reliever should be asked to do, as was once said in a movie, difficult but not impossible! Time to go out and kick ass, your backs are now to the wall!

I will not blame the pitching. It is up to the hitters to tack on even when the pitchers don't perform well. Last night was a perfect example.
