No need to "address" the pitching. The Mets starting staff was compromised to start the season, with Manaea and Montas on the IL, then decimated in June as Senga, Canning and Megill went down within days of each other. Prior to that, the Mets staff had led MLB in team ERA. You can't predict injuries. To lose the entire staff like that isn't a common occurrence. If I had to fault Stearns for anything, it was not picking up a veteran starter after losing Manaea and Montas in Spring Training, especially since Jose Quintana was still on the FA market.

With a healthy Senga and Manaea, joining Peterson, Holmes and McLean, the Mets starting staff is as good as anyone in the National League with Sproat, Tong and Scott just a call away in Syracuse.

If Manaea and Senga are healthy for the entire year, that changes the picture dramatically. But I still think we should reach out for Freddy Peralta. He fits perfectly at the top of the rotation. Everything else falls into place behind that.

I would think one durable pitcher like Chris Bassett would work out well with the five to six inning types they’ve collected.

Wow! No wish to offend but what did they put in your cocktail?

Until Stearns actually gets this team to where it was at the end of the 2025 season, aside from improving it, I'm thinking 2026 is a punt season

And Lindor's not getting younger and a year of Soto in his prime going to waste.

I suppose the strategy for new signings is to be patient, let time pass, and wait for the players they're interested in to lower their prices and contracts. A dangerous strategy...

I thought we might be in on Imai, quietly. Not pushing on it. Just hanging around. But I guess the scouting department didn't like what they saw.

Which is good, actually. Let the Astros gamble with their money. 😆

I know I've said this before, but if we can sign Tucker and trade for Peralta, suddenly we're in really good shape, even if we don't swing a blockbuster (Tatis would be the dream, but Ketel Marte more likely).

Maybe we'll get some answers this coming week.
