I am not yet convinced they are a contender but they are way more fun to watch with the young players injecting massive life into a walking-dead team. Zach Thorton being the 4th rookie to play for them when he pitches on Wednesday is a refreshing change. It's even a little Dodger-like - because it's working!

The 23-year-old outfielder is set to make his major league debut in Washington after a strong start in Triple-A. He joins a youth movement in New York as the team moves or from veteran depth to prioritize speed and upside."

Seeing Baty start to revitalize with his play is exciting. They still make mistakes, but the enthusiasm is great.

Just one thing. Can the Mets just have a "regular" win? This past Saturday, Sunday, and Monday are too much for this 65 yo!!

I'm kidding! Just win, baby!

Interspersed with our criticism of Stearns, e.g., "injury-prone players tend to stay injury-prone players", should come some praise for sticking with Benge when some pundits were clamoring to send him down and naturally, bringing him up to soon---little AAA experience.

Just keep it going, do not throw the season away, and as Joe G said, "baseball is a funny game"! Who knows 3 weeks ago Benge's average was below .200, and since has been producing like a bull market! And I'll give some credit to soto for staying positive about him and providing some guidance.

Like many fans, I am not totally convinced we're at the level of the Braves, or any other winning team just yet (more optimistic). The biggest concern is have is still the starting rotation. How long will the bullpen survive if their starters go 4 or 5 innings consistently. We saw this last year and we know poorly it ends. Not sure what they can do to have a starter extend himself into 7th or 8th.
