Carlos Correa Watch: Day 21 🚨
On December 21st, the Mets and Carlos Correa reportedly agreed to a 12-year, $315 million contract. However, after undergoing a physical later that week, the Mets raised similar concerns to that of the Giants over Correa’s leg. San Francisco had originally agreed with Correa on a 13-year, $350 million contract the week prior.
If the deal gets completed, Correa will join the Mets as their new regular third baseman…

The Twins are reportedly back in “serious” contention to sign Correa, after the Mets have gone over three weeks without closing the deal
New York is “not necessarily out of the bidding” yet, and former Met Carlos Baerga - who has been reporting free agent news accurately all winter - believes the Mets and Correa are finalizing an agreement

I’ll be honest with you — I’m tired of this.
It’s been 21 days since the Mets reportedly signed Carlos Correa to a shocking mega-deal in the middle of the night, but here we find ourselves, over a week into January, still waiting on the edge of our seats to find out if it’s really going to happen or not.
It’s been an extraordinarily weird situation as the Mets, just like the Giants, were concerned about Correa’s ankle after his going through his physical. What that’s lead to has been three weeks of speculation, a lot of meaningless reports saying the deal is “progressing, but not imminent,” and a brief battle of leaks and negotiating through the press by both sides. It’s all been incredibly thin-veiled, and a bit tiresome at this rate.
And now apparently the Twins are back in serious contention for his services. Or maybe they’re not and this is yet another last ditch, Hail Mary ploy by Scott Boras to try and strong-arm the Mets.
This situation has gone on for so long that at this point, if and whenever the deal finally does get signed, we will enter an extremely rare situation where a fan base will essentially celebrate the same free agent signing twice in one offseason.
Until that happens, though, I have to admit that I’m officially over the daily rigamarole of the Correa saga.
This isn’t to say that I don’t want him on the team anymore just because it’s gone on for so long. I’m just so sick of the constant differing updates, constantly checking Twitter and wondering when it’s finally – mercifully — going to be over, once and for all, one way or another.
I can no longer count on one hand how many days I’ve woken up saying “this is the day,” or had an exchange with someone who said they had a good feeling that things were coming to a head, only for nothing to happen at all.
At some point this will all be over, and there will come a time to either celebrate or commiserate, analyze and figure out what comes next. Until then — I’ll be catching up on some Netflix.
