Just when you thought the Mets were dead, they rose from the ashes, came back and won their biggest game of the year.
Again.
The Mets plated four runs in the ninth against the Brewers star closer Devin Williams, erasing a 2-0 deficit to win 4-2 and clinch the Wild Card Series against Milwaukee.
The Mets had been completely shutdown by the Brewers pitching staff since the second inning of Game 2. But in the ninth inning on Thursday, Francisco Lindor drew a walk, Brandon Nimmo singled, and then Pete Alonso - who has been ice cold since mid-September - lined a three-run home run to right field to give the Mets the lead.
Starling Marte drove in a fourth run in the inning with a single to score Jesse Winker.
For Alonso, it was his second career home run in the postseason, but unquestionably the biggest home run in his career. He had been 1-for-8 in this series before hitting his ninth inning home run on Thursday.
With the win, the Mets advanced to the National League Division Series against the Phillies, which will begin on Saturday at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Game time is 4:08 PM ET and the game will air on FOX.
