Holmes turned out to be a terrific value signing by Stearns. People who complain about him donโ€™t know what $13m/yr gets you nowadays. He showed us something yesterday. Its encouraging for next season ๐Ÿ‘

He led the team in wins and was just a few innings behind Peterson in IP. That's remarkable for a veteran reliever converting to a starter at age 32.

Simple equation. Mets must win, Reds must lose. As Sinatra sang, it's all or nothing at all.

Here we go. One game. Just win.

We'll need to beat two teams today - the scrappy Reds and the perennially dangerous Marlins. The Marlins are on us of course while we will need the kindness of the Brew Crew to sign off their regular season at home with a big win against the Reds.

As any astute observer of all things Metsian know we'll need help - lots of it. We'll need Ya Gotta Believe, Baseball Like it Oughta Be, OMG, and any available stray black cat. The Curly Shuffle wouldn't hurt and a How Sweet it Is sign waving from the field boxes by the ghost of the late, great Karl Ehrhardt at the end.

It's Game 162, an exciting last day of school feeling as we propel into the postseason; or a failing report card and the prospect of a long, cold winter buffered only by our passing interest with the rest of the sports world as we gather around the hot stove eager for news, waiting until next year.

It's not the day to expect the worst, the one dreaded emotion that permeates our life in Metsville. No, today we vanquish the demons, we rise as one, full-throated, and scream LET'S GO METS!!!

Q: Are the Brewers playing today for the top spot in the playoffs or have they already clinched?

Last night the Brewers gifted the Reds 5 unearned runs in one dreadful Mets-like inning.

๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚.....I was thinking the same thing when watching that dreadful 6 run inning....'they're playing like the Mets'. Mental and physical errors packed in same inning!

The Brewers clinched home field throughout the playoffs yesterday. They have nothing to play for unfortunately.

After 2 losses at home to Reds I'm sure they want a victory to maintain momentum & confidence going into the playoffs

If there's any good news, it's that the Brewers won't play again until Saturday so Peralta may stay in today for 6-7 innings

Not sure this team deserves it tbh. And what then we go into the wild card with who exactly starting for us? The GM made a mistake not addressing the starting pitching staff in the offseason then again at the trade deadline and well here we are. David Peterson with career numbers in innings pitched. Three rookies and a setup man moonlighting as a starter. Not sure I want to see this in the postseason. Torn

Nope. Get in, no matter how it looks. Once you're in, anything can happen in this tournament. I mean, don't you wanna get in and go on a run and have some fun this October? Or are we just in the "eh, they don't deserve it...." or "eh, they're not going to win, anyway...".

Some people suck. What's the point then? Why watch the games? This is a GREAT chance to right some wrongs in the team's history (the Game 163 parallels with the Reds in '99, notwithstanding because there IS no Game 163 if they both win-boo, hated that, last year). So, watch; root for a win and some help from a Brewers team that I'm sure does not want to go into their break losing 7 out of 10 and playing flat. Let's see it happen.

I think we can all totally agree Sterns has made multiple mistakes in building this team, from ST to TD. We can even blame Mendy for any one game he may have mismanaged in the season. But the Mets are just deserving of the post season as the Reds, D-Backs, Tigers and/or any other team. One can make the argument the team, themselves, may not deserve it but we, the fans, deserves October baseball.

Stearns gets an A+ for Holmes.

He also gets an F for Montas and a D for his trade deadline deals.
