The Mets breathed a sigh of relief this afternoon when they received word Francisco Lindor’s MRI on his back came back clean.
Lindor told reporters at Citi Field this afternoon there is no structural damage in his back, is day-to-day and could return in 2-5 days, depending on how he progresses.
Lindor injured his back on Friday night after stepping awkwardly on second base while running the bases, although he has since said he has been managing some discomfort in his back for the last couple of weeks.
Lindor had started all 147 games for the Mets through Friday night, did not start on Saturday, made the start on Sunday but had to immediately be removed due to continued to discomfort.
Lindor is hitting .271/.342/.494 with 31 home runs, 86 RBI, 103 runs scored, 136 wRC+ and has been worth 7.4 fWAR this season.
Likely the Mets season will hinge on him coming back. But every game is crucial now. The other core guys are just not doing it-Pete season long disappointment, JD and Nimmo dramatically falling off. Vientos struggling now too. Alvarez almost unplayable until recent teasers. To top it off, we could have withstood some bullpen inconsistency, but not Diaz being non-elite. Didn’t have to be a true contender in loser’s bracket, but did have to be more than current edition. No surprises, here, people. They were putrid in the beginning for weeks. Got back to the starting point with a great run, but fairly mediocre since. A full Braves team likely would’ve made this tease irrelevant.

Thankfully! Hopefully he's back for the Phillies and stretch run
That’s good news. Hopefully he doesn’t have to miss too much time.
