The Mets have been a .408 team since June. .408!!! I don’t care that Fangraphs gives the team an 89% chance of making the playoffs and where they get that number from I have no clue because they surely haven’t been watching this team. Frank Cashen had 10 baseball rules to live by and one was don’t let a team grow old together. That means the likes of Nimmo and McNeil plus Pete and I guess include Lindor too. While they have hit decently this “core” has been together now for a long time and hasn’t produced anything but 2 wins away from a WS. Knowing Lindor and Soto aren’t going anywhere it’s time to make moves. I hate to say it as I and we all love these guys but facts are facts. Even with the great pitching we had last year it couldn’t get done. Big changes need to happen over the winter. Trading Nimmo will be near impossible with the contract they just gave him. Same with Lindor of course. Lindor is actually worth his position as he’s one of the few Mets who has a positive in fielding. We had to get young at the pitching dept because the scrap heap program doesn’t work. We should have 4 new viable starters next year with McClean, Tong, Sproat, & Scott. The rest gets figured out over the winter but NONE of the rotation we began the year with should be guaranteed a damn thing. You said it thank god football is here and while this doesn’t surprise me in the slightest and I’m happy with my decision breaking up with this team a couple of weeks ago because the letdown is here. This team is cooked
I think the reason Fangraph has 89% for the Mets is because the Reds, Giants and Cardinals are just as inconsistent and mediocre as the Mets. Those three will tank, pushing the Mets into the first round of the post season. Then early exit.
I really don't get why when in a rut you do the same things over and over. Why not try something different, like lead Acuna off at 2b, move Lindor to the 2 spot, Soto, Alanzo, Nimmo, Vientos, McNeil in CF, Alvarez, and Beauty. More speed and better infield defense, McNeil obviously not a cf, but has done a pretty good job when out there. The pitching that's a whole other kettle of fish.
Preach. I've been calling for Acuña to get penciled in at second all year. People say he can't hit, but what the heck, we're not hitting anyway, and if he can get on base at all in front of Lindor, Soto and Alonzo, it should mean our Big Three seeing more fastballs to hit.
old school thinking; table setters on top and then your RBI guys follow. And with the new rules on throwing over to the base, baserunners have better chance to steal and put pressure on the pitcher. Acuna, Lindor, Soto, Alonso and Vientos. Totally agree with you
Maybe the question should be: Have they collapsed as far as they are going to collapse or is there still more collapse to come? Are they going to go 2-15 the rest of the way or 15-2?
Soto stole his 30th base while the Mets were down 7-2. He stole third base with two outs. Howie Rose said if Realmuto gets off a good throw, Soto's out. Soto is a divo (diva), has no grit, and puts up pretty numbers.
They are still three ahead (having the tie breaker over the Giants). In a short period, that's hard to make up, especially since neither the Giants nor the Reds has shown an ability to go on an extended good run. The Mets do have a fairly tough September. It might turn on not tanking during the Marlins and Nats series.
I have been saying the same thing all season, this team is very casual in the way it goes about playing, particularly Juan Soto. Mendoza's long season, we will get them tomorrow, we just have to play better approach does not work. The missing ingredient is Jose Iglesias who supplied some energy in the clubhouse last season. And Ronnie Mauricio can be dealt in the off-season. He plays very casual for a rookie. Seems to either A) be in pain or B) not trying very hard or C) scrared shitless when he plays. Kudos to Nolan McLain, who seems to be a very quite intense player, for battling through a split nail with a solid effort.
In my eyes, there's not very much to be optimistic about this season. However!! I believe we are setting up very promising 2026. 2026 will feature three kids who have shown, thus far, talent and skills to build a good rotation. That something 2025 team did not have. 2025 rotation started off with far too many question marks (they started off so well, they tricked me into believing they were better than they were). 2026, three of the five slots will be filled leaving competition for the last two slots for Holmes, Manea, and Senga (I know its more complicated than that, but work with me). 2026 still will have Lindor, Nimo, and Soto. Hopefully we won't have another nightmare of negotiations with Alonso. The Vientos, Acuna and Baty situation gets figure out (personally, Vientos slides into DH, Baty takes third and Acuna, who I still believe in, at second (totally up for debate). So, we may not be optimistic about 2025, but I'm very very optimistic for 2026....typical Mets fan, right?? Lol
Whatever happens down the stretch, we're clearly not going into the postseason on a heater. This is the time we should be really cooking, and we're not. If anything it's the opposite.
I was struck by how many times Mendy used the word "fight" in the postgame last night, though. He was clearly pretty frustrated. It's a bad sign if the skipper thinks his team is rolling over, and by all appearances, that's what he thinks.
But that's for later. Right now we just have to win some ballgames. We need big starts out of Holmes and Peterson the next two nights, and then hope we wake up at the plate. It's GO time.
Alguien debería escribir un libro que se titulara "La tortura de ser un Met", o algo parecido. ¿Ya existe? Y lo que nos queda por sufrir...

"I tried really hard to find some points of optimism for us to collectively cling to ..."
Easy, peasy … Jose Siri and his lifetime .207 batting average is back and somehow starting in CF
Maybe the question should be: Have they collapsed as far as they are going to collapse or is there still more collapse to come? Are they going to go 2-15 the rest of the way or 15-2?
I think 8-9 or 9-8 would be the most likely outcome. It's really up to the Giants or Reds to determine the last playoff spot.
Yes, but that kind of record doesn't feed into the hyperbolic frenzy of outrage so...
Late comeback falls short

I am prepared. My blindfold is on......the Mets can well lose ALL 4 games to the Phils....
yea, started in June
