I'm a Baty fan. Wish you wouldn't jinx him with talk of 30 hr and 100 rbis. Reminds me of last spring when some people were talking that way about Alvarez. I'll just be happy if Alvarez manages to stay on the field long enough to crack 400 at bats. Returning to the bigger picture, unless Stearns signs a major FA or two or makes a major trade, it's accurate to describe what he's done as a teardown to start a rebuild. In which case, getting Semien makes no sense. Same for Polanco. If you're doing a rebuild might as well play 4 kids every day (Acuna, Benge, Williams, Mauricio) and see what shakes out. What's the difference if you finish 5 games under .500 or 10? Wish I knew what Stearns's strategy/plan is...surely there is one.
One thing I don’t want to see is another platoon with Baty. Put the kid there and stick with him. Give him the season as it sure looks like Stearns is attempting to create a new core with Benge coming by mid-season if he doesn’t break camp with the team. Jett is a trade piece I feel. I also feel the bullpen is going to be filled with kids who are going to be starters in the future but breaking in with the pen along with Ross and some other names According to Ernie Dove. I think Ernie is right with his synopsis on how the Mets are going to be constructed going forward.
For sure, Baty should be allowed some slack and should continue to play even if he hits a cold spell. Took a look at Ernie Dove's video. Far better than most you-tubers' but I lack the patience for 19 minutes straight of prospect talk. I'm not sure why Jett Williams has lost his luster in conversations about prospects.
I think the Mets are having a fire sale and may even be quietly pondering ways to step away feom Lindor and Soto. Cohen has lost interest, and is more concerned with his casino.
Put Baty at the hot corner and let him be. He showed great growth in all aspects of the game last year, and seems like a guy who will work hard to improve.
One of the things I look for is body language. You can tell a lot about where a player's head is at by the way his body moves, how he carries himself, whether he's poised to attack or just reacting.
In the second half last season, Baty was a different dude than we'd seen in the past. He was twitching in the box and looking to hit and do damage rather than standing there like a statue. He attacked the ball in the field rather than play back and hope for a good hop.
In other words, he was athletic and natural rather than robotic.
If he can build on that and come back with the same confidence, we'll be fine at third.

Ernie is good with the prospects for the Mets. It’s nice to know about kids before they are playing at Citi field.

Have the Mets contacted Yamamoto??
You mean Okamoto? Stearns never leaks information. I haven't come across anything mentioning Mets interest in any of the Japanese free agents.
I think we're quietly in on Imai. Stearns doesn't want to trigger a bidding war, but I think we're ready to spend if it's there for us.
