When it rains, it pours… ✍🏻
Remember that scene in Bull Durham when the team had returned home after a brutal road trip and the players said, “what we need is a rainout,” to which he responded, “I can get us a rainout.”
(He then flooded the field from the sprinklers)
Well, that’s how I felt on Saturday. With the pitching staff in shambles, a four-game series the Mets against the Braves in which the Mets had already rather uncompetitively dropped the first game, and three more with only Max Scherzer certain to start a game among the rest of whoever is in their rotation right now, it felt like one of those days a rainout was needed, if only to buy an extra day for the pitching staff.
Now look - of course I want the Mets to play, and of course I want the Mets to win. But there are some days on the baseball calendar it’s best they don’t and given everything that had been happening to-date, the losing trend the club is on, a reboot day seemed appropriate.
At first, it seemed like a splendid result.
Then of course, the club announced they had lost another pitcher to the injured list. This time it was their only left-hander in the bullpen, Brooks Raley. He has elbow inflammation and that is all we currently know about his situation.
So the staff took a hit again, they don’t have a lefty in their bullpen anymore, either.
When it rains, it pours.
The forecast looks ominous for midday. Maybe another rainout is in order?
