To be fair, take a look at his ops last season against lefties: .844! Where are you going to get that kind of performance? Anything close to that and Marte with Winker would make an excellent DH platoon. I say we exercise some patience with him.

He's always been a bit fragile. Even with the Pirates, he was missing games. He's played in at least 140 games just twice over his entire career.

Agreed. When he's healthy, he absolutely can still contribute at the plate. I wouldn't let him play in the field, though.
At this time he is a DH, and should only be in the field in a dire emergency
