Media and fans: "the Mets need to do SOMETHING!!!"

Mets: "let's call up Ewing to New York. He'll bring a fire and a more patient bat to the lineup."

Media and fans: "oh! No no no.... that reeks of desperation. "

Seriously, you ask why it's a toxic relationship...

You’re right about the lack of slug. I figured we’d hit less HRs but I thought we’d be a better hitting team. Oops. I’m looking forward to seeing Ewing tonight. He looks like he has star potential

"Stearns was resolute about run prevention but tried to do it at the sacrifice of run production." Huh? It was an empty slogan, he wasn't resolute about it all. It's been observed umpteen times that half the team is playing out of position.

Yeah, if you wanted to destroy a team, 2 of the first things you did would be to allow your heavy hitter AND best closer to walk. And then be unable to secure top flight pitching .....for reasons unknown. Don't players wanna play here? The owner is willing to pay and the city is center of baseball universe. Is it a case of things suck now but if things gel and they went deep into playoffs its all OK? There IS talent for sure.

They did get top flight pitching. Peralta has been good, albeit not great. Myers excellent. Weren't we all quite pleased when this trade was announced? It was reasonable to think Weaver and Williams would be effective but for the most part they haven't come through. I think Stearns has earned the disdain he now has from the fans, but it's not because he didn't get pitching. 90% of the problem is hitting.

They got lucky on the closer (Diaz) being injured. I mean, could you imagine if they had signed him and been going through this with no safety net in their bullpen (10 blown leads, btw)? "It could have been worse, John. A lot worse..."
