Tylor was arguably let down by the gloves in two of the last three starts. But yesterday was just bad. He had no command of his secondary pitches at all.
Agreed on his pitch mix, though. He has the big fastball and a decent change. Use them. If he can get ahead of the count more by just pitching big and then mix in the slider and sinker as put-away pitches, he might be more effective.
Megill fan here. Hoping that he can turn it around, whether it's via the advice suggested here or from Hefner. I'm not very enthusiastic about what Blackburn or Montas can provide. Btw, I forced myself to look up Alonso's recent stats: over the last 9 games he's gone 5 for 36 with just two walks. Not pretty. Acuna also slumping. As they say, you can't steal first base.
Yeah, we're in a downturn at the plate. It's going to happen over the course of a season. Teams have adjusted to both Pete and Acuña, so now they have to adjust. I'm sure they will.
Same goes for Tylor. He has the stuff, he has the ability. It's just a matter of putting it together consistently.
That's one of the reasons I want to see him bring the A-Train more and work off that. If he has fastball command and he's getting ahead in the count, he doesn't have to be too perfect with his secondary stuff. He gets in trouble the most when he tries to get into pitcher's counts by pitching backwards.
It will hurt you if you choose to go with a six-man rotation & have to fill in two of the people.
Megill did his job for over a month. That's a good run. Even then, he could only be trusted with five innings. He has yet to prove himself as a consistent starter.
He still has value as a spot starter and long guy. Blackburn isn't a grand replacement, but hopefully, he can give you some good innings.

But none of it matters if he can't throw strikes.

Megill y regularidad son palabras incompatibles. No pueden utilizarse juntas en la misma frase...
I'm just about ready to give up on Megill.
