At least it seems the Mets do have their ACE. This kid throws the ball like I’ve never seen. I’d like some physics teacher to watch him and attempt to convince me the ball doesn’t move. He had the leagues best hitters looking foolish. Against a lower tier team (which the Mets are right now btw) he would’ve had 15 Ks. One run against that team? I’d take that every time. Soto surely matters. Fire Mendy.

Took you a minute to come around

We're seeing the exact opposite ABs from what we were led to expect. Not good. And I'm not sure what the problem is.

Pressing is the usual suspect, but that's inadequate. A great pitcher like Yamamoto will get you to chase. It was those 9th inning ABs against Vesia which got to me.

Noncompetitive.

Ugh. After 3 pitches in, the offense didn't do much.

There are the obvious “automatic outs” like Marcus Semien, Tyrone Taylor, and Mark Vientos. But what’s even more troubling is what you’re getting from the supposedly core pieces like Brett Baty and Luis Robert Jr..

Last night, in two crucial spots where the Mets actually had a chance, they didn’t just come up short—they folded with no fight. And that’s been the pattern during this seven-game skid: the guys who are supposed to carry the offense are producing no better than the bottom of the order.

At some point you have to ask a basic question—what exactly are you protecting here? Because right now, you could pull a couple of bats from the farm system and you’d be hard-pressed to get worse results than what these supposed major leaguers are giving you.

The Mets lineup is weaker than last year. With Nimmo and Alonso leaving that is over 60 home runs and 200 RBI. The replacements aren’t comparable. Jared Young and Mark Vientos at first? Semien, at second is not a hitter. And, with Soto injured, there is more pressure on Lindor and Bichette. The only upgrade in the lineup is Robert, jr.

The line from Stearns, Mendoza, and Cohen is again patience. Yes, it is only 18 games but I would like to see Mendoza and Stearns shake things up. Give other players (e.g., Pham and Mauricio, a chance). Consider Alvarez as a dh when he isn’t catching. Decide when it is time to put Peterson in the bullpen. Maybe, Benge is not ready and needs more time at Syracuse. Time for Mendoza snd Stearns to consider some changes.

Nolan is everything advertised plus some. Other than him, everyone other than Alvarez is underperforming. And not having Soto is absolutely no excuse. I've said it before these are the games you look back on if you are out of post season baseball. Learn how to manufacture runs when the big guy is out.
