If we get the 2022 version of Pete, look out. If he can bat .270 with 40+ dingers in the heart of the lineup, we're going to score some serious runs. And he can do it if he's not chasing sliders away.

Meant to say fifth infielder.

Can Alonso perform under the pressures of another season of pending free agency?

He should be used to it by now! btw, I'm glad Iglesias rejected the Mets offer. I understand the need for a backup shortstop. But you've got to give your prospects a chance. I'd rather they kept Acuna around as their 4th infielder. In a pinch, McNeil can play a few innings at short also.

Whereas Soto is elite.....Alonzo is not. Soto has an egle eye & arguably get favorable 'ball' calls by umps cause he has an excellent sense of strike zone. I've never seen him swing wildly at an outside or high pitch. Pete on the other hand had predilection to repeatedly swing at outside slider 8-12" off plate. Moving runners is another topic....

Indeed. If Alonso could improve even a little with chasing those outside pitches, it'd make a big difference.
