Petersen is continuing what we saw out of him from his last 12 starts last year and sits just south of an 8 ERA if you include his second half up to yesterday. Nothing is crisp and in an attempt to get ahead of hitters the Snakes hit him early and often. Is his arm dead? Is his elbow bothering him and he’s staying silent knowing this is a contract year? Petey can be a good starter and we’ve seen him at his best as a guy who can keep the count down and go deep into games. Just haven’t seen that guy in a while now. I’ve always liked David and root for the guy but he was a first round pick and maybe this is who he is and the last half of ‘24 first half of ‘25 is the best we will ever see from him. I hope he gets right although I don’t know how much rope he will be allowed. Can’t have a black hole every 5 days. Hope he figures it out. JD coming aboard feels like a manager in waiting situation. I think Beltran would get first crack at it but then he was already hired and fired before he made the HOF does that give him another shot now? Does JD move to next in line? Mendy won’t get another contract from the Mets. Recall he isn’t a Stearns hire. Which is why he hasn’t received an extension and that’s fine with me.
Wow, a very positive post for the first time in a long time. I actually agree with everything you just said. I'd move Peterson to the BP and bring in Myers if Peterson doesn't improve over the next two starts. I like him to but this game is about results, not feelings.
I call it like I see it brutha. I follow several Mets sites and do get differing viewpoints. It all can’t be roses and sunshine even during a win streak. I’m not a pessimistic person but I’ve been a Mets fan since 1975 and have been sucked many years just to have my heart broken. I believe this team can go far but there are still issues to fix including firing Mendy.
Manaea is improving. He seems to be able to give you 3-4 credible innings. Toss in an opener or maybe Myers, and you have a start. I would wait, though, and see if Peterson can snap out of it. He seems to be able to get into a groove after the barn door is open, and he gave up a lot of runs. He is not totally useless in that respect. So, I hope it is a mechanical issue he can fix.
It’s a tough decision what to do with Peterson. We can’t have a BP with him and Manaea. Manaea doesn’t look like a rotation option. One of them needs to go on the IL. I’d give Peterson 1 more start and then something needs to be done if he looks like this again.
On a positive note or two, I'm lovin' Baty, Vientos and Robert Jr. Baty EASILY could've pouted about playing all over the field, but he's turned into a pro's pro. Vientos is scooping up throws like he's Alonso. Who knew? Robert Jr. - PLEASE stay healthy and keep the strike outs down, 'kay?
Who had Holmes lookin' like a total ace on the mound?
I don't see why we don't simply replace Peterson in the rotation with Manea. He's been ok and Peterson has been bad. Why complicate things? Regarding the "unbelievable" quote by JD Martinez, hyperbole is part and parcel of sports and of sportswriting. Not that big of a deal imo.

Mendoza was hired a month after Stearns was brought in.
