Andrew completely negates everything Stearns says in the "Who's Cold" section. As Andrew later opines, we'd all like a cuppa Kool aid that Stearns and Mendoza are sipping. Then, insult to injury as Drew Gilbert makes his debut for the Jints with a field gem - but he wasn't good enough to supplant Taylor, the guy in the dugout watching Marte getting thrown out at the plate.

Mendoza may indeed be a "good" manager, but on the scale of good, better, and best. But enough gloom and doom - Stearns says the offense is coming around!

I don’t see how we start hitting at this point. Last night was not a pitching problem. We had 3 hits until the 9th. I honestly don’t get the complaints about Stearns. He didn’t give Nimmo an 8 year contract. Alonso’s contract seems more than fair. I think we all wanted Soto - the best hitter we’ve ever had. Who knew Lindor would forget how to hit? After last season it was tough to predict Vientos would regress this much. The only thing I hold against the front office is not calling up Sproat or McLean to pitch instead of Blackburn or Waddell.

Yeah, and who would have thought the not only Vientos, but also Mauricio, Baty and Acuna would all fail to hit consistently. Soon, Benge and Williams will be up here—and hopefully hit!

I’m happy Gilbert made it to the Show. I’m willing to bet he gives SF better production than the Mets have had in CF this year. I’m glad you said exactly what I’ve been saying for a while now. I’ve had replies from not knowing what I was talking about to I’m not a fan and they will turn it around. They won’t. When a team has no heart or will it’s almost impossible to get that back. The team that was 21 games over surely wasn’t going to last but to go from that to just plain awful resembling Mets teams from the 70’s and early 80’s with these players shows there’s something broken with this team. I don’t know if there’s a clubhouse issue or the chemistry isn’t jelling. These guys historically have been some of the best players in the game at points. I’m glad I didn’t waste my time watching the game. I wound up binging some crazy Texas murder show with the wife and it was enjoyable compared to seeing another loss. I love the Mets but I can’t do this after what we all watched earlier this season. This defies logic and I’m sick of it being “only the Mets can fuck this up” as it’s happening-again. Stearns better have a plan next spring because this is unwatchable. I’m a huge college football fan. I love it more than anything so the timing kinda works out for me but shit, this just sucks.

It would seem that Jose Iglesias and OMG meant more to this team than his batting average.

I agree with most of what you say. The time to lose hope has arrived. But I don't blame Stearns or Mendoza. Btw, "self-enforced"="unforced".

David Stearns is lost. When he became the prez, I thought that he'd be gone after three years. Why? 1. This ain't the Brewers, Toto. 2. He refused to get a true ace. 3. There is no one who is feisty outside of Jesse Winkler.

Also, Juan Soto, for all his stats, can't carry a team for a stretch. The Mets don't rally around him.

I sense (with zero evidence) that Soto isn't the most popular guy on the team ... and it has nothing to do with money.

This would not be a crushing loss, but in the context of their total team play over the last 2 weeks it is, and keeps them heading downward. Why not try something bizarre to shake up the lineup, rather than do the same thing over and over and get poor results

Stearns still believes in Montas. What an idiot!

Everyone is "working hard." We hear it over and over again. How about everyone having some fun and just playing ball?

And that's all I'll say about that. I'm running the risk of beating a dead horse.

And for crying out loud, bring Acuña back up and pencil him in at second. No one is hitting, so what the heck. We need some young blood anyway. He's a great place to start. Let him get out there and get beat up a little and learn how to play this here game at this level and we can go from there.

The worst deal that can't be undone: the eight year contract for Nimmo. He's become a stikeout machine!

1. No spirit - no persistence Mets players are like the walking dead.

2. Alonso and Jeff McNeil seem to be the only ones who care.

3. coaches should remind players “see the ball hit the ball”. I watch many games of many teams and the Mets always stand at the plate looking for THEIR pitch - the other team is smart enough not to give it to them. Are the coaches telling them to hit the ball where it is pitched

4. Nimo should shave the beard - it doesn’t look great and perhaps it will lighten his head so he can see all the fast balls he watches cross the plate and then after it crosses and has struck out.

5. Mendoza is too conservative - where is the hit and run, Sacrifice bunt, Double steal, bunt for base hit, etc - move the line up around - experiment!

6. STERNS - Yikes - he maybe fooling himself but not true baseball fans. Didn’t want pay the price for 1 ace and keeps on signing make-over 2nd and 3rd grade pitchers they think they can fix. Is this a more expensive Wilpon shopper?

7. Whole Front Office - they sent Acuna back to minors then Watch Marte push his old knees to get home for the run. Do you think Acuna would have been called out in spite of great throw? They are by holding back young guys in AAA - maybe they want to wrap them in plastic and wait until these guys are in late 20’s before they give them a position at City Field

I can go on and on. Not saying anything others have said but my bottom line is if you are going to lose a game then at least be entertaining and play exciting baseball

METS are horrible to watch

Zzzz…..

Enough blame for the WHOLE ORGANIZATION

I am quietly rooting for the Marlins to overtake the Mets wild card

2. Lindor should braid his hair when he did that he was hitting - Soto is a grumpy guy just riding out his year - I agree probably not liked in club house

A podcast questioned, to some degree, what the Mets gave up for their rentals.

I agree overall. For instance, giving up Drew Gilbert. Instead, they sign a rental OF who appears mostly to be praised for what he did in the past. Not saying Gilbert will be as good as the guy they got, though I don't know that he wouldn't bring some life, and so on. If the Mets don't go far, the rentals are less impressive, and they gave up people who would be here after the season, too.

The team got some hitters that helped them clinch the deal in 2015, including one BIG bat, and a couple of role players. The Mets need someone like that. As of now, since the Braves are out of it (I think! ha ha!) and the Reds keep on scuffling, they probably will get to the playoffs.

It might be better if they had more to worry about there. Feel they figure they are safe even with all these losses & what? Eventually kick it into gear? Guess that's possible.

I think the deadline moves were a gamble that will probably fail. The relievers have performed well , Mullins not. It's not Stearns or Mendoza. It's the "fab four".

The relievers have repeatedly -- in a short period -- looked human. They are human, but given what was given up, that's just one more thing.

Yeah, they needed to pinch run for Marte but even if they tied the score at that point does anyone really think they would have won the game?

After Senga dropped the chopper and before he threw the HR pitch, he was visibly upset and a visit from the dugout was in extreme order. I didn't see one.

But as bad as Senga was (2 swings and misses in 79 pitches), this one, again, lies at the feet of the diminishing stars. Almost time to be thinking who will be here next year. Of the big 4, only Pete will likely be gone. I see a good chunk of the young infielders gone ... and maybe Alvarez.

Yes. Ultimately, they lost 3-2. With those bats, we shouldn't have to rely on 2-1 wins.
