Boy, what a difference scoring runs will do. If this start happens when this team was barely scoring the kid loses because the defense let him down. Lindor dropped an out at second. Literally just dropped the ball. It was a terrible play and Pete got ate up by a grounder where he should have had his body in front of. Both led to runs. His line of 4 runs (1 earned ) in 5 innings is what the Mets have been pretty much been getting all season. The Marlins fouled off 23 pitches. They had a plan to get him out of there and to the bullpen which might have worked if the Mets hadn’t put the game out of reach the first 2 innings. I can see the kid has talent and his night was disjointed by having to wait as the Mets sent 8 men to the plate in the first and 9 in the second. He had so much excitement he couldn’t even sit. His curve ball should be thrown even more in my opinion as it breaks like 5 feet. That was impressive. I’m not poo pooing his outing I’m just pointing out that it was almost a terrible experience for him for all the time he had between innings early in the game that made it a bit disjointed. He did show resolve when guys were on and shut down the marlins not allowing them to score. The errors were egregious and I hope Lindor and Pete apologized for them. He looks like he should be the bat boy in how young he is. He gonna be a good one. The Mets with McLean,Tong,Sproat,& Scott? If he comes back and is what he was before he got hurt? Oh Boy. That is a rotation. A bit right handed but Petersen slots in there nicely. Senga gets traded for someone at the deadline or during spring training. Same with Manaea. I’ll be watching Tong’s second start closely too. The future looks bright. So does the present. LGM

I'm older now and have witnessed 6 decades of Mets baseball ....last nite became sentimental in seeing this kid that you say looks like the batboy! Such is the circle of life....in with the new & vibrant out with the old & broken down!

The great offense masked the malodorous defense. Lindor at times looks brilliant, then just plain awful. Pete? He can sure hit those 'taters!

How can you not be excited about the future with McLean and Tong (and hopefully Sproat)? It was kind of crazy that the Mets' offensive explosion in the first 2 innings actually may have worked a bit against Tong, but he seemed to manage the situation well. Funny how remembering how to hit a fastball can turn things around! But now that pitching and hitting seem to be getting back to the right trajectory, they can't get sloppy with their defense.

What was with the decision to pitch Torrens in the 9th? It needlessly extended the game and put Torrens at risk. What if someone had lined one of his 50mph pitches right at him? Just an incredibly stupid decision IMO.

A good first game by Tong. Liked the zero BBs, a bugaboo for this staff. His dugout time in the 1st two innings wasn't helpful but he handled it well, even joking about it by doing a pretend sleeping thing with his head in the dugout in the 2nd inning.

MLB needs a mercy rule. The combined 10 runs to end the game is an embarrassment for the league ... at least it should be.

Very encouraging to say the least, but he benefited from getting some low pitches called strikes. Hope he can get it done when the zone is smaller. Great movement!

That overhand trajectory can be as tough for umps to read as it is for hitters.

Hoping that Alvarez and Winkler make it back Alvarez makes the catching much more solid with his bat, and Winkler adds an intangible edge to the team's roster Siri doesn't excite me, Mc Neil and Taylor have done the job, don't see Siri adding anything special at this point in time. Let's keep winning, and let the good times roll!

I think Siri is the best baserunning the Mets have. Swift, aggressive, smart, good baseball sense on whether he can take extra base. Great outfielder too.

True, I liked Acuna as I thought he could give Lindor an occasional day off to keep him fresh. He also ran and fielded well. Hope he gets a real shot to play

That's the guy we need. But I've said my piece on that.

I'm with you. Who sits? Mullins? Taylor? Wonder if Mullins would have a fit if Siri came in as his defensive replacement...

Don't share your enthusiasm for Winkler. But Alvarez, the latest incarnation....that's a big weapon.

That was an exciting game. I was on an airplane for the entire game, but I bought the eight dollar Internet, which I never do! It was money well spent to witness the debut of Jonah Tong and the exploding offense at the start of the game. Those errors made in the fifth inning were terrible and almost cost the win for Tong. I’m glad he was able to work out of it. Overall a really happy day for the Mets! Lots to look forward to…

Ryan Helsley pitches well in a lopsided game.

I'm glad Tong got the win. The errors made it a close thing. The count was 3-2. If he threw ball four, with nearly 100 pitches, I think he would have left the game without a win. The defense has been a bit horrid in the first two games. Cost them a win and could have cost Tong a win.

I'm not sure about that new pitcher, Luis Torrens. Seriously, I don't ever remember BOTH teams putting a position player in that spot.

Did anyone notice Tong's last pitch was a ball? I think the umpire intenionally gave him a gift. Except for Mendoza's idiotic decision to let Torrens pitch, it was good night for the Mets.
