This may be Alvarez's last shot at proving he belongs in the show. The records are filled with players who "torch" AAA but get hosed in the show. Granted, Alvy has done it before, let's hope he can regain the spark.
I'm rooting for Alvarez to show he belongs. Who knows what a young player deals with, and if anyone could figure it out they would be payed a ton of money And pencil Acuna in the lineup on a regular basis. The missing pieces in the lineup might be right under their nose. Let's go!!
Hopefully Álvarez brings the power. I heard this morning that since 6/4 Lindor has a .624 OPS. That’s a lot of the issue with our offense. That and Vientos not being close to what he did last year.
I don't think so. I do think they are willing to trade one of their young infielders. Alvarez, even if his D is never going to be average, could become an awesome DH in the mold of a Kyle Schwarber. The Mets have never truly accepted that the DH is an actual O position in the NL. A lot depends on what they think of Kevin Parada.
I think there's zero reason to suspect Alvarez is being showcased. He was sent down, he's performed, and he's being brought back up. No subterfuge. Regarding Parada, I thought that if he didn't start to hit this year they'd conclude he wasn't going to make it. It's his 2nd year in AA and he's not tearing it up. Not great for a #11 overall pick.
Schwarber is a left-handed hitter with great power. If you convert Alvarez to a DH he won’t play that much and his power numbers are streaky at best. IMHO
Why wouldn't he play that much if he was producing? No platoon, if that's what you mean. Many, if not most, power hitters are streaky, see Pete. And I'd be thrilled if he became a Schwarber clone, but he wouldn't have to be to be an asset.

He's 23, Jack, and whatever he shows for the rest of the season, there's no way it's his last shot.

Or the return of Francisco Alvarez means he is being “showcased” for a possible trade at the deadline.
