Stearns said nothing by saying a lot. I think there will be two top arms in this rotation from the outside. McClean obviously proved he is ready for the Bigs. I can’t say that yet with Sproat and Tong. The Mets aren’t going to pay Pete 35mil to be DH. I felt Stearns turned negative at the end of the presser on Pete. Diaz will be brought back and that will get done. To me Jarren Duran has to be a target. He was available at the deadline and is the odd man out in Boston. He hit 18hr with 84 rbis along with 11 triples. While playing golf glove defense. Vientos plus can get that deal done in my opinion. Skubal can be had as the contract neg have gone nowhere in Detroit. King and Cease also are FA same with Framber Valdez. There are a few more arms out there too. The Mets NEED 2 aces plus McClean gives them a great rotation with Manaea and Petersen as 4/5. Manaea obviously has surgery in the off season. Holmes? If he can’t go more than 5 is he really a starter? Trade Senga for anyone that will take on the contract for a bag of balls. I’m happy Stearns realizes now he cannot build a rotation around him. That’s a big start. We will all dream of the players we want in the off season and make the trades for this team as we play GM but the team NEEDS run prevention. That begins with starting pitching. Period.
Bla, bla, bla... Palabras y más palabras.... bla, bla, bla... Excusas y más excusas... Lo único que cuenta son los hechos: un plan real de reconstrucción de un equipo que no parecía que necesitara ser reconstruido a principio de temporada.
Stearns said the Mets to get more athletic on defensive side....agreed.. I saw Michael Harris of the Braves make an incredible leaping catch over the center field fence to save a HR....then the NEXT batter hits a bloop to center and Harris sprints in to make a sliding catch...it was an unbelievable sequence showcasing his athletic ability.. Oh...his next at bat was a Homer. The Braves have athletic talent galore. Harris, Acuna, Albies, an All star 3rd baseman and the most calm All star 1st baseman ....he never wastes energy swinging his bat at the plate till pitch. In the field he stands relaxed till pitch.. Alonzo does those silly chopping practice swings and pounds his glove like a 12 year old in the field all the time. Relax! Yes I'm hard on him.
It does appear the Yankees for one have a better personnel department. 'Soto gone?? We' just get Corey Bellinger (who had a great year) and Goldschmidt. Oh, I forgot the guy that reminds me of our once best pitcher....Yanks get Max Fried the next winner of Cy Young. Why can't the Mets do that???
"The Mets may have missed the playoffs. But Mets' owner Steve Cohen is one step away from getting his mega casino by Citi Field. His bid just passed 6-0"
One Mets podcast assumed that MacNeil, Vientos, and Senga would be gone in the offseason. I'm no prophet. I do think they need to say goodbye to a few people.
I understand the felt need to retain Alonso. I also am wary of him. The discussion notes his defensive liability. He will have slumps. Okay. So, how many years and how much money are you going to spend on an aging DH? When the team needs multiple parts.
I agree with the podcaster when he was pissed that it was leaked right after they lost on Sunday that Mendoza would be retained. I understand keeping him. But why do that? That's annoying. And he said the loss is on him. Consequences? Some coaches will be fired. Buck stops where?
Fans have the right to watch, gripe, and pontificate. So I do. Anyway, the team needs some housekeeping. More than firing a few coaches. And, I'll say it. I wouldn't have been horrified if Alonso didn't come back last year. If he comes back this year, do it. Don't drag it out forever.

As in politics - it's all talk ... until it isn't.
Good piece, Justin
