Hoping McLean isn't needed to pitch again this season to keep hus rookie status but most importantly, to be able to start the First Wild Card Playoff Game
Playing like their backs against the wall! A win tonight and a loss by the Reds and DBacks would make the weekend a whole lot tense. Who needed Mullins or Siri when we had the same type of player with a bit more swagger in Tyrone. Plus he is a better cf than any of them and occasionally comes through with a big hit.
The story of the 2025 Mets was written when David Stearns decided he could rely on a starting rotation that included: Kodai Senga (after throwing a total of 5 innings the year before), Frankie Montas (still have trouble believing this signing), Griffin Canning (who pitched more than 150 innings only once before in his career) and Clay Holmes (a failed closer who had never pitched more than 75 innings before).
Man! This is insane! Could we possibly put rookie Sproat under any more pressure than we're putting him under tonight?! ๐ ... Come to think of it ... Yes. I suppose we could. ... We could send Sproat out there again to pitch a few innings in the following 2 games. (Same goes for McLean.)
In Mets history, have we ever before put any rookies (who've pitched so few major league games) out there to save our entire our season during the last few games of the season?
I'll repeat myself: This is insane!
Maybe I missed this, Rich ... Who's scheduled to pitch the following two games? (Who's left?)
Finally ... If anyone happens to read my comment ... Is it my imagination or is Alvy the only player in that photo/video who looks super duper celebratory about Baty's 3-run homer? Don't get me wrong: They're all clapping. They all look happy. But Alvy is jumping up, turning to the crowd & pumping his two, 4-fingered fists in the air! Peterson, in contrast, looks like he's exhaustedly resting his head on the railing.
I'm pretty sure that seconds-long video snippet (which also shows only a few players) does not accurately reflect the team's actual celebratory response. I watched the game, after all. I could swear I saw the whole team's excited reaction in the dugout & toward Baty. Had Baty's HR been a walk-off, they would've mobbed him as he reached home base. (As soon as I finish this comment, I'm gonna go find a full video to confirm my recollection.) That said, something about the video snapshot of excited, pumped up Alvy versus weary (beaten down?) Peterson jumped out at me. In some way, it seems to represent the season.
3B Brett Baty is hitting .311/.372/.500 with seven home runs, four doubles, 16 RBI, 24 runs scored and an .872 OPS over his last 42 games
Yet you insisted on playing Vientos for 3 games in Chicago and left Baty on the bench for 2 of them.
TFinally Baty plays 3rd base and rewards us w a homer. Vientos did his normal crap at the plate but I am sure you believed y did the correct move because you followed the lefty- righty stuff you live by - and not going with the HOT HAND
THIS is a choice you made many many many times this season - along with other non creative plays
I hope you lose your job for 2026 season. We need an experienced out of the box thinker to lead the Mets (along w changes that Smug Sterns needs to do)
If the Mets get into the 3rd wildcard, you probably will be saved
If they donโt get in I hope they rip the bandaid off and send you back to the Yankees who most definitely will not want you

This is it. Three games and the magic number is three. Show us what you got, boys.
Some butts were tightening out here in Minnesota too after that 3 run HR.
The butt tightening heard round the world ๐

Hey Mendoza - did you see Batyโs numbers?
