Enjoyable piece! Fingers crossed. No major injuries. If Baty and Alvarez both hit, this could be quite a team. If Baty continues to adapt well to first and the outfield, Stearns will look like a genius. I feel badly that my boy McNeil is gone as well as Nimmo but it's looking like it was wise to part ways. I believe both Holmes and Peterson can be FA after this year so it'll be interesting to see if they're extended.
Whoa! That's a whole lot of confidence. I hope Tong and Wenninger, Thornton, Santucci and Watson turn out to be above-average starters like Holmes and Peterson but being sure of it is another matter.
Tuchman will opt out of his contract and be signed by someone in seconds. I don’t see any way Vientos makes this team. He hasn’t hit a lick at camp or for Nicaragua. He needs a change of scenery and someone will grab him. Should’ve traded him when he had some value. I hope Baty gets the 500 ABs he was promised. He figured it out in the second half last year and I expect him to be a solid player. He could be an all star imo. Alvy looks good. If he stays healthy this could be his year. Ahhh. Spring training. So much cause for hope. LGM.
The Mets should be reintroducting MJ Melendez behind the plate. Gives extra depth on the team, has played the position previously and can be a nice weapon. If you want to start him behind the plate a game or three when Alvarez rests, would give them a lefty bat with pop. I think he moved off the spot more because he was blocked than by his defense.
Nice idea, but aren't we running out of bench spots? Assuming Baty starts at 1st, Benge in right, Polanco DH, that leaves Torrens, Taylor, Mauricio or Brujan, Tauchman, giving 13 position players with Vientos odd man out. That leaves 13 pitchers, so you'd have to go with 12 pitchers to carry Vientos or someone else like Melendez. Do I have that right?
I believe Melendez is on a minor league deal so he can go there and catch everyday to start. Benge will wind up in center by end of year as Robert continues to be hurt all the time and hitting 220 when he is not. Mauricio to the minors, so I guess you need to keep Brujan not a thrilling prospect either way. Mauricio needs at bats and not a fan of his approach.
Vientos is on the team. Tauchman may start in minors..he was signed to a Minor League deal as well I thought. Probably has a June 1 clause
Hmmm. I think if Tauchman doesn't come north, he's able to be a FA and another team can and will grab him. If Vientos makes the team, it's going to be a challenge to find him at bats.
Not sure about Tauchman deal. Vientos is going north, especially after spending time this winter trying to deal him for a pitcher. Personally would not mind seeing team move on from him and either Holmes or Senga for an upgrade on the staff. Or a highly rated young pitcher to add to their stockpile in AAA. I cant stand watching Holmes pitch. Very uncomfortable motion. - Would have shoved him back in the pen when Diaz left. Cant stand this 6-man rotation we have to have because of Senga. Five man 7 in bullpen, room for an extra bat.

I doubt either Holmes or Peterson will be extended. What for? Their replacements are already in the system.

The young bats have been very encouraging so far. Ewing looks way better than I was expecting. We could see him this season at some point.

Keep Tauchman! Ideal bench bat and not a defensive liability.
Our farm is seriously stocked. We're starting to get real clarity on the long-term plan now, and I like it. A lot.

On paper, it's a very strong rotation. I wouldn't complain about it.
