What’s up with the Mets? 🍎

  • With Bo Bichette back in the fold, the Mets seem less inclined to pursue INF Teruaki Sato (Athletic)

  • The Mets are expected to shift their focus to their pitching staff and explore every area of the market for starting pitching specifically (Athletic)

  • The Mets and Dodgers could end up leading the derby to sign Tarik Skubal, but the Padres and Angels could be dark horses too with the Cubs really liking Skubal as well (NY Post)

Rumor Mill 💨

  • The Orioles are open to trading multiple pieces from their roster this winter (Baltimore Banner)

  • The Rays have every intention to keep Drew Rasmussen (TB Times)

Off-Season Outlook 📈

This winter, the Mets have no players with unconditional expiring contracts, and only one where a player option may or may not be considered. The club has no team options to consider, but will need to decide whether or not to tender contracts to ten different arbitration-eligible players by mid-November.

In addition, the Mets could choose to non-tender players who are pre-arbitration eligible if they no longer have any minor league options available.

The Mets could also attempt to trade any such player they’re considering not tendering a contract to before the mid-November deadline.

Noah K. Murray - NY Post

Let’s jump straight in today: the Mets do not need to acquire a new second baseman this winter, and you will never convince me otherwise. Because they don’t.
