Yes. Mr. Q. had to step up. He did not. I'd hope for at least 1/2 good season or something from the guy. He had a few signs of promise but now we get this. He isn't the only reason the team are where they are at (Seattle looked like world beaters for a weekend) but isn't helping.

This team is the definition of mediocrity: good game/bad game; poor run/good run: now settled into their norm: mediocrity. I expected them being where they are all season, despite ups and downs. I think management did too—even during hot streak. They weren’t throwing good money after bad. The more important concern is: where is next year’s team coming from? I like to compare our prospects to the other teams. I’m especially concerned with pitching

Time to have Jose skip a turn or 2. His last few outings have been battling practice sessions. See where we sit on Monday. Braves are catchable

I'm going to keep saying this, because it needs to be said. They were never as good as they were in June and July, just as they were never as bad as they were in April and May. They're a .500 team. Not good enough to win a Championship. Just making the playoffs and making an early exit isn't good enough. This was evident to me all along. It was also evident that they had a golden opportunity to trade off their expiring contracts and continue to fortify their farm system, because that's where the team's future is. Last year was just a starting point. They need to continuously replenish the farm system with talent, so they always have the next Alonso, the next Nimmo, the next McNeil, ready to take over. That's how the most successful teams, like the Dodgers and Braves, have always done it, year in and year out. David Stearns stressed last off season that 2024 was going to be a year to evaluate what the Mets had on hand, both at the big league level and throughout the minor league system. Somehow, he got caught up in the hype and held on to his pending free agents, most of whom will not be back next season, instead of trading them for prospects. That's going to bite them in the ass going into 2025 and beyond.

I think you can probably save some time each day and skip the Playoff Race section in the newsletter. It's just not going to happen this year. Too many core players not playing to their abilities (or taking too long to get there), no consistency on hitting or pitching, too many injuries. Stearns has done a great job with improving this team around the margins this year, but hopefully he'll make some big moves in the off-season. Don't get me wrong, this team has been far more competitive that I thought they would be, but they are just not playoff caliber.

I suppose this is obvious and could pertain to most teams, but the Mets will be in dire need of pitching. Also, some objective soul searching to decide which position players just aren’t going to get them to the next level.
