Despite Soto being a very POOR (765 mil) right fielder, there's no way he nor Nimmo could've backed that up. It went to left centerfield and caromed off the wall towards right field. Soto was properly playing towards the right field line. Very weird.
It is tough to fathom, I will be happy to see Tyrone back. Low hit,and an occasional surprise at the plate, but he is the most reliable cf playing terrific defense. The noose is getting tighter on the Mets, and hoping the execution is called off!
What's with Alonso and his throwing problems? Luckily, McLean did not get injured going for his high throw. Are they coaching this guy? If so, does he practice these throws?
I checked in and saw it was a low-scoring game, and I figured that against the Nats, there was a real chance for history to be made. For Gary to declare in his distinctive way -- IT HAS HAPPENED. THEY WON A GAME AFTER LOSING IN THE NINTH!!!! When it was 3-2 with men on more so.
It did not happen. The Nats did the job of second-tier teams & lost a game on Friday, even when the Mets gave up six runs. Somehow, the Nats gave up six runs with two outs. And then more.
So it goes. The odds STILL are over 70% with seven games to play. Good odds.
OTOH, long-term fans might want to check their heart medicines with the final three games taking place in Florida.
How about Detroit? Will they blow it after being up by 15 1/2 games over the summer?!
Will the Astros or Red Sox blow it? The last week of the season has some drama. I'm rooting for Seattle to get a bye. I still think of Seattle as sort of Mets West.
Mullins has been a gigantic bust. Enough said. Soto lines up way too far in gap, which was evident the past couple of weeks as he is playing right-center field, allowing balls right down the line to become triples instead of doubles, doubles instead of singles. Instead of padding his stolen base stats for his own ego, he should be working on his range in the outfield. And his goal this year as a Gold Glove?
That was such a horrible pick-up. The best that could be said about him is that he was a plus player in the past. So maybe they would find some magic with him. Not much to go on for the ONLY position player you pick up. Worse, they elsewhere gave up an OF prospect.
Which leads to the biggest problem, the Mets big four, three could/should be fulltime DHs. Soto is terrible in right, Nimmo throws like my Aunt Sally in left field, and Alonso, while he tries and is good at scooping ball at first, is not a good fielder. He gets an A for effort at least. Soto, no range, has never met a cutoff man he wont overthrow.
I won’t go as far as to say that Mullins misplayed the HR but I will say it could have been played better. Instead of running to the wall he should have realized at some point that he wasn’t going to catch it and played back for the carom instead of getting caught flatfooted at the wall … says me from the safety of my recliner. It could have saved a run. And ... as already been said … no backup?
The Mets local of the pitchers union is soon going to tell Mendoza they’re not going to cover 1B anymore because of safety concerns. (Remembering Kodai Senga and his hammy)
Despite ALL the changes to baseball, great defense and great pitching (starters) will ALWAYS give a team the best chance of getting to the playoffs (playoffs?!) every year.
Listened to the end on the radio. Almost drove off the road at an inside-the-park HR. Do outfielders ever back each other up anymore?
Weird play and bounce. As ball was hit towards left side of centerfield but then bounced backwards toward right field.
Also could Mullins have done anything different. As he went after the ball and then was too close to the wall to stop the ball from bouncing back

Should Soto DH 2X a week to keep him fresher on RF Defense
ANYONE HAVE BAD MEMORIES OF HOW CESPEDES BUTCHERED THE FITCH PLAY/ FIRST PITCH OF 2015 WORLD SERIES
BY DROPPING AN FLY BALL IN THE ALLEY THAT 99% OF CENTERFIELDER MAKE.
THEN KICKED THE BALL, TO GIVE THE ROYALS A GIFT, INSIDE THE PARK HOMER
ALSO HATED THIS KIND OF OFFICIAL SCORER RULING.
AS WHY DOES THE PITCHER GET CHARGED WITH GIVING UP A HOMER.
WHEN MOST CENTERFIELDERS WOULD HAVE KEPT IT TO A DOUBLE.
SO WHY NOT A DOUBLE AND AN ERROR BY MULLINS IN CENTERFIELD?
It won't make Mets fans feel much better, but that guy in 85 games has a bunch of triples. Man is a speedster.
SHOULD ALVEREZ BE STARTING WITH THESE PRETTY BAD # s
ON ALVEREZ, He has made Alot of bad plays on defense where TORRENS SHOULD BE PLAYING
ON OFFENSE, HAS ALVEREZ EVEN BEEN DECENT
SINCE DL AAA RETURN
15 GAMES
45 AT BATS
222 BATTING AVG
14 Ks = BAD
10 HITS
4 RBIs = REALLY BAD
2 HOMERS
3 DOUBLES
5 SINGLES
2 WALKS
METS METSTWITTER

Hated the Mullins trade from Day 1. As the complaint against Taylor was, he was a great C/F Defender but only s light hitting 222 hitter
SO WAS IT REALLY SMART TO ACQUIRE MULLINS WHO HAS BEEN A 230s HITTER FOR THE LAST 4 YEARS,
IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER TO JUST CONTINUE TO USE THE MCNEIL/ TAYLOR OPTION
OR NIMMO DOMETIMES
OR EVEN DREW GILBERT. WHOSE SHOWING WITH THE GIANTS, THAT HE WAS READY FOR MLB METS
Remember when Spring Training was about fundamentals and practice?
Good times.

We need a great defensive CF. I hear we have one in the monors. Oh, wait. He plays for the Cubs.
Taylor is great enough in CF Defense and you don't have to waste anymore prospects on a rental
And if you want early offense, then start McNeil or Nimmo in CF. And hold Taylor as a late inning defensive replacement
