I agree we need to add preferably a top of the rotation arm in the offseason. But let’s not forget that one of the worst pitcher adds was a “proven” pitcher in Peralta so we tried that unsuccessfully too
While Peralta was coming off his best season and some dropoff wouldn't be a surprise, I don't think there's anybody out there who could've predicted what happened. It's one of the things we can't blame on Stearns'. Letting Alonso go and signing Polanco and Robert were the biggies. I know Robert's been hitting but he'll probably come up injured tomorrow or the next day.
The Mets traded three pitchers, and Senga is in the pen.
So, we are left with replacement-level starters against the Brewers. Stock has done okay overall, considering. OTOH, I'm ready for them to try someone else.
A starter is an obvious "get" in the offseason. Maybe two. I would aim for a trustworthy arm. I don't need some ace.
"Stearns must abandon his philosophy of trying to turn projects into gold..." Indeed! It's ok to give a shot to guys who show some promise, but the Mets overplay it. Jared Young is one of those guys that's turned out to be a decent player. We'll see if Duarte can continue his effectiveness. Here's hoping Lavendar is the real deal. The bullpen is mostly a collection of minor leaguers/retreads and one circus performer. McLean is the solitary proven quality major league starting pitcher they have. Scott overall pretty good, not great. Let's see if Thornton is for real before we get too giddy. If you think they have a decent pitching staff, look around at what other teams have and you won't be so sure.
I agree. The Mets need to bring in some proven starters in 2027. Holmes would be a great option. In addition, at this point, it may be worth taking a look at Tony or Wenninger in Stock’s place.
Over his last 3 starts for the Cubs, Holmes had given up 1 run in 19 innings.
