Old joke about Mets pitching from early on ... guy says, "did you see the Mets scored 20 runs today? Other guy says, "did they win?" 🤣

This is so funny 😂

The Mets and Marlins often have wild games, but not quite that wild.

Morrell at first base, Devinski, and Lavender on back-to-back days contributed to the mess.

I am particularly curious why Myers didn’t start the 9th. If he isn’t there to finish in a non-save situation, giving your better arms a rest, what is he there for? Instead, he comes in a much higher-stakes situation. Since I respect Andy Green, what was his reasoning?

Semiens/Baty at 2B is a reasonable idea. They should get a good defensive first baseman in the offseason. A person like Morrell is nice but disposable. And, overall, it is probably time to say “bye” to Vientos.

Exactly, Joe. Myers was my choice for the 9th, but Andy Green never listens to me.

The only thing we should be confident about Lindor for next year is that he will suck when the team is playing meaningful games in the beginning of the season, and he will play like an MVP once the games are irrelevant.

Just a few facts to add to your encyclopedic knowledge: Lindor owns a lifetime .776 OPS in high-leverage spots compared to just a .557 OPS in low-leverage, non-critical moments. His late and close games OPS is .804. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

What do you mean by “high leverage spots”? Because IMO the Mets haven’t had a high leverage spot since mid-June.

A game in April counts the same as one in August

If you look at the overall record, these games might not be critical. But the Leverage Index measures how close the game is; how late in the game it is; and how many runnbers are on base. So it's a high leverage situation for Lindor if there are 2 on and it's the 8th inning of a game the Mets trail 3-2. And it doesn't matter if they are 62 and 50 or 50 and 62. It's a high leverage situation.

I think that you and I are talking past each other. My original point was: I really don't care if Lindor hits a late inning, go ahead 3-run HR in mid September with the Mets eliminated. It may as well be a spring training game. (I actually went to the Yankee game last night *shudder* - at least they are playing meaningful baseball.) Lindor was a massive failure when the games mattered, as he has often been.

Not a bad idea to platoon Baty and Semien next year. We're stuck with Semien and Baty would get us next to nothing in a trade, so if you want to give him one last stab at it, go ahead. But if after 30 games he's still hitting .220, I'd say "enough". Yes, just about the entire bullpen came crashing to earth yesterday. What was that guy's name, Weaver?

Devinsky should never pitch relief for the Mets again.

Tim Gallagher's avatar

I think he's done. He has had a good career, but you can't trust him.

I agree for the most part. The idea of Baty and Semien sharing 2nd does not excite me. I’d much rather see if one of our infield prospects can win the job out of spring training. If not then I guess we keep Baty. Can Sato play 1st? I’m hoping we sign him
