Last season JD Martinez apparently helped some of the players - Vientos for one. I’m wondering if the players are listening to Soto and trying to let the ball get deeper but they don’t have quick enough hands to make that approach work? Is that why swing speeds are down? I’m grasping at straws here lol

JD needs to be the hitting coach. Soto just likes to spit on pitches.

Great argument about firing the hitting coaches. I am guilty of calling for their heads while deep down knowing it isn't the cure all. I'd much rather watch a team like the Guardians hit all season. So many hits the other way and great situational hitting. The Mets cannot manufacture a run at all.

Too much thinking. Not enough "see ball, hit ball." And for crying out loud, I'm sick of hearing about how hard everyone is working. That's most likely the culprit here: over-preparation. There just isn't enough time in the batter's box to tick through all the options as the ball is coming in.

If I were in Mendy's shoes, I'd tell everyone there's no batting practice tomorrow. Go out tonight and have some fun and then get here in time to get dressed and go out there. We need to let the natural ability exert itself.

Coming up tomorrow—what a time to face the Brewers! At this rate, even Triple-A Syracuse might have put up a better fight than the Mets did yesterday.

But the issues go deeper than a bad day at the plate. These are systemic problems, starting with the manager’s approach. There’s zero emphasis on small ball—no bunting, no dunk hits, no situational awareness.

And the bullpen? Either train relievers to go longer or get creative—trade for starters with high ERAs who can at least give you three solid innings. At this point, anything’s better than watching the same failing blueprint play out night after night.

I do agree that changing hitting coaches at this juncture would probably be meaningless. And, ultimately, it is up the the players to figure this out. But here's the thing, we don't know what the coaches are telling the players. Are they giving them good intel that the players aren't following or are they giving them bad intel that they are following? I also remember reading that most veteran players also have their own private hitting coaches, so are they getting conflicting information from them?

Yes, the players are too blame. The Mets have 2 hitting coaches. Name one organization that has 2 CEO’s. Does Catholicism have 2 Popes? How many countries have 2 Presidents? That’s one problem. Mendy also deserves some heat here too. His quick hooks with the pitchers and some of his “hunches” and decisions ain’t working out. Namely he keeps playing Vientos in the field. His glove is unplayable at third and now first base as the kid literally can’t catch a pop out. For all the metrics that show Pete is somehow a poor first baseman I know I want him there for 162! This shit starts at the top which also includes Stearns for not signing top pitchers that were on the market and not trading for any or brining up kids that are supposedly “knocking at the door” but still languishing in AAA. The Mets will probably turn this around when it’s just too late to do something about it and miss the playoffs by a game. I’m calling it. They will then claim they fought until the end and came up just a bit short. We should reject that as fans of this team and show it with keeping our money in our pockets next season. College Football starts in 23 days. Roll Tide.

Vientos may not be a good fielder but Pete has butchered a few pop ups also ... as recently as the Giants series
