Yeah… this is starting to feel a little too familiar.

Everyone keeps selling optimism, but when you actually watch the at-bats, it’s a lot of the same issues the blog itself points out—soft contact, ground balls, and nothing doing in big spots .

People say Baty’s “turned a corner,” but I still see a .250 hitter. Semien—what exactly was the plan there? Defense? Because the bat looks like .230 all over again. Jared Young gets hyped for power, but right now he’s more like 1-for-5 with weak contact (that 74 mph liner with runners on kind of says it all).

Alvarez is chasing like usual, Torrens is hit-or-miss, and Vientos… same story, different year.

Benge? Nice spring story, but now he’s starting to look like what he is—a guy who may need more time. Bichette feels like Lindor last April—cold, and you’re just hoping it doesn’t stretch into May. Polanco pounding the ball into the ground doesn’t help either.

And one thing I don’t get—why is Mendoza so reluctant to give a reliever a second inning when the pitch count is low? Feels like we’re burning through arms early for no reason.

It’s early, sure. But early doesn’t mean imaginary. Some of these patterns aren’t new—they’re just back.

Regarding the bullpen, Mendoza seems to be robotic, as in, "Oh, this guy name is Myers, he can go more than one inning. This guy's name is Weaver or Raley, he goes only one inning even if his inning was easy with a low pitch count". Regarding the other points, I'm not worried about the hitting, at least not yet. When they acquired Semien, I don't think anyone was counting on much of an offensive improvement. And the starting pitching has been excellent with no serious injuries. I think if we get a smarter manager we'll be fine.

Trying to watch the Mets offense with men on base reminds me of scretching fingernails on a blackboard. It is a painful exercise to watch.

Fire Mendy. He plays Vientos against a righty when he has said he will bat against lefties which is today. Dickie Lovelady has pitched in 3 of the 5 games the Mets have played. This is the guy who made the bullpen as the last arm. What are we doing here? Down by 2 runs and you run out that scrub? I don’t want to hear who is available and who isn’t 5 fucking games into the season. If guys can’t play they don’t deserve a roster spot. Every game matters as we saw from last season and Mendy has no problem giving them away. Somebody please ask him what his thinking is on these moves. Senga was great and the team is a bloop and a blast away from a tie game and Lovelady comes in and gives up the blast that puts the team down by three. I could scream right now with the moves this asshole is making. I hated the hiring from the jump because he’s Boone2 and he will do the same here Boone has done over there. Win but not really.

Woah easy there big fella. Only 5 games in, give the team at least a week.

We're complaining about how he manages a bullpen. Whether this takes place in the first week or mid-season isn't germane. The games being played now count in the standings as much as games played later on. There is no excuse to repeatedly use the last guy in your pen in high-leverage situations...and he keeps on doing it, oblivious to the results.

You guys are brutal. Stop over reacting 6 games in. I agree he isn't the coldest beer of the six pack, but I firmly believe we have enough talent to even overcome Mendy's incompetence. Keep hope alive & LGM!!!!!

It’s the same shit he did last year. Mendy waved the white flag being down 2 runs. The guy sucks. Sorry if you feel it’s not warranted but doing the same thing over again and expecting different results is what again? I can’t watch this idiot do the same shit this season

Every game counts! Not overreacting to this idiot is what cost us last year. ONE GAME! Is all it takes brutha.

I just can't fathom giving such a prominent role to the very last guy in your pen. It's almost like a fetish. It probably didn't matter yesterday but it did the other day when he came on in the 10th. It just defies all sense. Bringing Lovelady in basically means "we're giving up on this game"...reminds me of how they kept bringing Helsley in last year after he'd shown that bringing him in was the surest way to lose a ballgame. I've been a Mendoza defender but no more. I think he's just not real smart. All Cohen's money will go down the drain until you have a tactically adroit manager. And I'll repeat: Fairbanks was there for the taking this winter but the Mets declined.

They’re gonna dfa lovelady today or tmmrw that’s why they ran him out there again last night

Good news but the reasoning doesn't hold up. It was 2-0, not 8-0.

There were also better lefties at the end of spring training. Danny Columbe could have been had too. If Minter is dog shit when he comes back then what? Putting a lot of faith into a guy who hasn’t pitched in over a year. I think you’re right. He’s dumb.

The perennial problem of leaving players stranded in scoring positions. Players have been signed to address this—especially Bichette—but so far, we're still in the same bad shape.
