Not because the loss can be laid solely on him, but Alvarez should be made to sit down and watch the tape of his last at bat, the final out, on a loop for 8 hours

Interspersed with the previous at bat of exactly the same 3 wtf swings

I'm beginning to think the Mauricio Mystery is real. I just don't know where that kid's head is at. It's almost like he didn't realize why he was in the game last night.

There's going to be some serious midnight oil burned in the offseason as Stearns and the front office try and figure out who in the mix for third base is staying and who is getting dealt.

Anyway, the big takeaway last night is McLean. He evidently popped a fingernail in the second inning (maybe the third, he's not sure, which alone tells you something) but battled through and got us into the sixth down just 1-0.

That's ace mentality. And it's worth noting, he should be running out of innings at this point. He came into last night's game at plus-30 IP over last season. But he doesn't care. He walks out there and it's Win Day.

He needs to prove it over a full season at this level, but he sure looks like our No. 1 to me.

For a guy who is supposed to be the model of consistency, and the best hitter on the planet, and certainly the highest paid, Soto is very inconsistent. I wonder how good the Mets hitters really are, since they seem to all hit at the same time, and struggle at the same time. They don't have anyone who is going to hit .270 every week, every month. The positive is that McLain, with his broken nail and less the 100 percent stuff, battled to get into the sixth. And I like that he always looks intense. Something the rest of the team should maybe pick up on .

Just turned on tonight's game. Manea is already stinking up the joint and they are being no-hit on top of it. I have big doubts right now if they will even be able to limp into the post-season. And part of me is actually OK with that. What's the point of watching this brand of baseball longer than we have to?

Alvarez looks like he's reverting to the way he was batting before he was sent down. Overall I think they're doomed.

He’s playing with two messed up hands, let’s not forget that.

He's back to chasing. Arguably, that has little to nothing to do with his injuries. He's simply regressing to the mean.

The lack of any really consistent team other than maybe the Brewers this season is a sign that there's just not enough true MLB talent to go around. Any talk from the idiot Manfredi about expansion is truly nuts - there just isn't enough players to stock another two teams.

Take the Mets, please (thank you Henny), we notably brought up three major prospects: Baty, Mauricio, and Alvarez - Baty looks like he might stick, barely, but arguably Mo & Alvy are marginal major Leaguers. Vientos is another one who looks like he may have a career in the show, albeit a fairly mediocre one. No team seems to have enough pitching with this trend towards the 5 or 6 inning starters that could change how rosters are constructed.

It has indeed been a odd season all around. I don't think any team can be considered as a strong favorite to win it all this year.

They’re gonna blow it. It has that feel. McClean is the new deGrom where they won’t hit for him. Might be said for all the kids. Mendy sucks with his L/R line ups as he takes guys who are hot and moves them or sits them all together. I’m happy I broke up with this team some time ago so this failure won’t hurt as much. Thank God Football is here.

The Mets were averaging 8.25 runs per game in McLean's first four starts, man! 😂

I'm confused ... If you broke up with the Mets, why are you reading this excellent Mets substack?

YES James......the Mets have a history of disrespecting their excellent young pitchers by not even scoring 2 runs for them. What they did to DeGrom was criminal. He ALWAYS seemed cool about it.....but he left quickly and hasn't looked back. I wonder why.

A damn shame he didn’t win 3 Cy’s as he got robbed the third year. Nobody knows how he felt but I’m sure he wasn’t happy. Jacob hated the media. It’s why he’s back home in Texas. Injuries robbed him of what could’ve been a HOF career. The Mets have bungled things that NOBODY in the history of baseball bungles. We still stay though. I expect this WC chase to be more exciting or excruciating than it should be.

You said it right, another wasted effort from the kid who battled and gave it his all. Again disgraceful that in the 9th with 2nd and 3rd with one out, and probably the guy you are happy to have up strikes out, followed by another K.

The Mets have poor fundamentals and do not know how to advance runners by using their bats....not for contact. They swing away like a bat in the 3rd inning lookin for anhomer

a Homer

Totally agree, and will add I wonder if Acuna who runs the bases well was on 1st, if he tries to score on Mark's double as he'd probably have a bigger lead off 1st.
