Helseley is not working out for some reason. Last night was pitch selection. 0-2, three straight sliders to go to 3-2. Bader knew fast ball was coming. Threw it in a bad spot. Trying for k's instead of weak outs. And can we please send Brazelban (or as I refer to him as Brazelbum) to the outer space. I do not ever want to see Carlos Mendoza have his buddy to bring into a game.
Mendoza has to be buddies or something with Brazelban. Otherwise he would be back in AAA. Keeps bringing him. Keeps melting down on the mound. If it were Stearns of front office, he would just bury him. He is in love with the guy and he is the most unreliable player in the major leagues. You can see he has no confidence out there and looks like he is about to cry when things go badly,
Ok, I get what you're saying but Brazoban was great for a fairly long stretch early in the season and I guess they're hoping he recaptures it. I would criticize Mendoza more for bringing Helsley in in a high-leverage situation, don't understand that choice at all. Lucky we escaped the damage. Speaking of choices, they don't have a lot today coming out of the bullpen, most everyone's been used last couple of games. Heavily overworked pen.
I guess I'm more of an old school guy. Yes data is useful, but no more useful than baseball instinct, focus, and physical abilities. How would a laboratory guy work with the great Lawrence Peter Berra? Anyway very happy to see the bats cracking, the reinforcements coming up to make a run. Thirty games to go, buckle you seatbelt and get a ticket to ride. Oh by the way, anyone still want to kick Vientos to the curb? LET'S GO METS!!!
The vibes seem to be shifting. Tong is going to be another shot in the arm and has a chance to do something really special against a bad to middling Marlins team. Helsley is killing this team. Luckily it was only a tie HR he gave up which allowed the Mets to walk it off. Still, the problem of the 5th innings still persists for the guys who were supposed to be horses this season. Having the bullpen needing to get 14+ outs every night is like playing with fire. You are more likely to get burned than escaping unscathed. If Tong carves up the Marlins does he stay in the rotation for another start? These kids should have been brought up a month ago. Atlanta has had much success doing the same thing so this isn’t some novel idea or approach. Still need to see more over a longer stretch.
I think we all hope that but watching highlights of him and the stuff he has I think he’s gonna be just fine. His delivery is almost identical to Lincecum and not that that should mean anything but that guy was pretty good and has hardware to prove it. There have been plenty of pitchers who have rocketed through the minors and have had success in the bigs. I also feel Stearns wouldn’t put him in a position to fail. He also can’t be worse than what’s getting trotted out there right now.
Going forward, Ryan Helsley is the most important player on the team, IMO.
Do you mean that? How about mop up duty only until he finds himself?
Then there are in deep trouble!

Buddy? What's that about?

Credit to Stearns for not trading him away.

I hope Tong isn't too early; he started last year in St. Lucie, a low A league team.
