Things are really desperate when losing Blackburn to an injury is a major blow. Butto used to start...surprising stats from Marte...most of us were ready to put him on the trash heap. I'm starting to lose hope for Baty and Vientos.
I thought Brett had broken through when he went on that hot streak for a couple weeks. He was tapping his right foot and wiggling the bat around, kind of shaking his shoulders and hips loose. He didn't look anxious so much as ready to do some damage.
Now he's back to standing there like a statue with just the slightest tap of his foot. I don't know if that's the coaching he's getting, but I do know he's late on hittable pitches again.
What is there to say about Vientos? The league knows he can get beat on breaking stuff, especially sliders away. He'll chase and work his way out of ABs early in the count and get himself out. And at the major league level, you can NOT get yourself out. You must make pitchers work.
Whether it's a sophomore slump or not, the platoon I was hoping for at third just hasn't materialized. I'm beginning to think it's Mauricio's job to lose. That's doubly true if Acuña comes back up and nails down second base (which may happen).
As to Blackburn, I agree — if losing a borderline sixth starter is a crisis, you're really thin. But we must keep in mind, we're short Senga, Manaea, Megill and Canning, so we've lost two-thirds of our rotation. That would be a problem for any team.
I'm gladI don't have to figure it out, but as David Sterns said when signing all the guys in the off season, with pitchers you never know. Hopefully the Mets take off again after bandaging the bleeding.
Pitchers are dropping like flies. It’s crazy. I’d much rather give McLean or Tong or to a lesser degree Sproat than trying to get to the trade deadline with Hagenman, Waddell and Tidwell.
Tough time. Good thing we gained so much early altitude.

Butto on IL today
No! Can't be! He's basically back one of middle relief corps.
It's on the mlb.com transaction page - as real as can be
It's wild. I guess we're in a serious competition with the Dodgers and Braves with injury tallies....
*backbone
Butto on 15 day IL retro to July
Recall Chris Devenski from Syracuse

Can you imagine being Dick Scott, the Syracuse manager, and trying to figure out your rotation? Or BP? Or Carlos Mendoza, you say?
