Hard to watch the past week or so and not have - for the first time since mid-May - a sense of (cautious) optimism. NEVER one to want to see any athlete injured, but maybe a silver lining in Soto sitting for a bit. Wish Lindor would play less and heal properly. Let the kids get a long, hard look.
Mets have a twist of good fortune. Saw data recently that they have among the hardest schedules in MLB down the stretch. Good. That means opposition has to win - certainly more than the Mets do! Day Care Center Roster in Flushing will see live ball and aggressive opposition. Also good. Better now. Use it and learn what it takes in the ‘final forty” to finish and win. That will come in handy next year, I hope. Sit the vets. Let them heal. Not entirely, maybe play a few days a week. Innings are investment capital now. Invest them them wisely.
Kind of strange, but for no reason whatsoever I have this old tune rattling around in my head the past few days. Ever hear “the kids are alright” but The Who? No clue why. Had not thought of it since forever. Maybe just an old brain sending signals…
