So fitting that on the day the Mets greatest OF was honored (please don't come at me with that Wainwright nonsense), we saw Benge set a Mets rookie record for hits. Is he another Beltran? Perhaps. I just want him to be Carson Benge. There are great days ahead for this kid.
Yes, Benge is all that, but still dangling in recent memory are Vientos, Alvarez, Baty, Mauricio, and probably a few others that don't immediately come to mind so early on a Sunday morning. I'm not being negative, just cautious. I've seen too much disappointment in the past revolving door of young Mets players. You don't have to agree.
Yup, lots of players never could duplicate their rookie year but I don't think Benge is going to be one of them. I especially like the way he hustles and doesn't show up the other team, doesn't stop and admire his homers. One of Stearns's few good decisions was bringing him up and letting him play even though things were rough at first.
Yesterday was a great day at the ballpark. Classy speech by Beltran, entertaining game, the 4:10 start (4:30, technically), and game over in time for dinner in Flushing. If the team can fill more seats with Saturday 4:10 starts I’d like to see more of them.
The Mets are still playing meaningful September baseball! Both the Phillies and Rangers are playing for key playoff spots: one to get in, one to play at home. They can also still play to avoid last place.
So they want Devin Williams to play in a couple of games or something? Talk about a player few miss. I guess that's useful.
Yes, rookie seasons can mislead, but his is better than the others.
Either way, the game is going to be played, so one more game of Howie Rose.

That's true, but none of them have had as impactful a rookie season as him, either offensively or defensively. That's my opinion.
Great summary on Carson Benge’s accomplishments this year. Let’s hope he keeps growing. I love the outfield with Soto, Ewing, and Benge.
I'd love it more with Soto at DH and someone who moves a little in left field. If Morabito can hit, we're in business.
Good point! That could be better.

A big plus 1 in the ledger for Stearns sticking with him all the way.
