The 2024 Mets Opening Day Roster
Michael Tonkin and Yohan Ramirez made the team out of the bullpen
The Mets announced their Opening Day roster on Thursday ahead of their season opener against the Brewers on Friday.
Yohan Ramirez and Michael Tonkin made the club out of spring training and will serve the Mets out of the bullpen to start the season.
In addition, DJ Stewart made the club while they wait for JD Martínez to get ready. Martínez has agreed to be optioned to the minor leagues in order to prepare for the season after he signed late in spring training.
The Mets will play 19 games in their first 20 days of the season thanks to Thursday’s rain out against the Brewers. As such, the Mets are very likely to need an additional starting pitcher during that stretch, making it more than likely José Buttó will be promoted at some point during this stretch of games.
The Mets will play the Brewers in a three-game set to open the season this weekend, followed by a three-game series against the Tigers next Monday through Wednesday. After an off-day next Thursday, the club will hit the road for seven games to face the Reds and Braves, then come home to face the Royals and Pirates, a span of 13 straight games.
