I have no idea why I am choosing this silly little hill to die on, but... according to Fangraphs, in his first year in Detriot (2008) Miggy played just 14 games at third and 143 at first, then didn't play third again until 2012. Agreed that he was still playing third in 2007 with the Marlins, but he crossed the diamond almost immediately with the Tigers. Maybe he showed up out of shape in 2008 and gave the team no choice? None of this is really relevant to Alonso getting his bag, I guess I just love a good digression.
I must admit, I didn't think Pete would see Freddie Freeman money. But credit to Steve Cohen for getting there to get it done. Everyone moved a little, and now we can move on.
So glad we signed Pete. He makes the lineup so much better. I saw he turned down 3 for $85m with deferrals and opt outs. I think he could regret not taking that
Just a nitpick, but $30MM is the second highest salary for a 1B, MIguel Cabrera made $31MM with the Tigers.
Yes but Miggy was a 3B when he signed that deal- he started playing 1st AFTER so...it's nitpicky but he received that deal as a 3B
