Strongly disagree. You provide the following as praise: "...although he finished in the top-10 in voting twice during his 20 year career.", but it's actually damning. How can a player with only two top 10 finishes in their career be considered an all-time great? Career batting average of .279 with an obp of .350 makes someone an all-time great? Come on! The main problem is that the hall is becoming a collection of excellent players instead of truly great ones and electing Beltran would contribute to the problem.

I may be in the minority but during Carlos Beltran tenure with the Mets, he had 3 excellent seasons, one terrible season and 2.5 seasons which were incomplete due to injury and the trade to San Francisco. Not exactly a stellar Mets career.

If he is ever elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame, he should not, NOT wear a Mets cap. The Mets have been knows as the LOL Mets for longer than I care to remember, and to have the only player named in the cheating scandal wearing a Mets cap in the HOF is just something that I would not want to see.

The Mets two representatives in the HOF, Seaver and Piazza are All Time Greats. To have someone associated with the most sophisticated cheating scandal in recent memory would just add to the LOL Mets.

And remember after he was offered the Mets 7 year $119M contract he went to the NY Yankees for and offered to play for them for $20M less.

Yeah, I still bitter about that :)
