Accountability is needed but it has to come from the owner. If he cares about winning and putting a solid product on the field like he promised us then we need to make front office changes. Then let that person dictate what happens with the coaching staff. Getting rid of Mendoza and/or some of his staff misses the mark in my opinion. Mendoza does not construct the team and it's not clear that he makes the decisions overall.
Unless Steve is going to fire David mid-season , then let it ride . My vote would be for Steve to fire David. Bring in someone else, let them decide the fate of the staff. Let the manager choose who he will work with and try to turn this around. Doing this though would indicate a rebuild of sorts because what we have now needs an overhaul.
I know it is AAA and not the big club, but why are they running out a veteran with a .137 batting average at shortstop multiple times a week. There is nobody better, anywhere? Really?
Fire Stearns AND Mendoza. Stearns has given Mendoza a poor roster to work with (Soto aside), but also Mendoza makes infuriating decisions on a daily basis that cost this team wins. There needs to be a major shake up.
A more animated Mendoza would help. More creativity in manufacturing runs.....do they steal enough? Ranking?. The GM should be sent to AAA to refine his skills as he seems to subscribe to the scrap metal heep methodology too much. I thought Semien a great catch....but now? Same with handful of others. I realize the Dodgers ALWAYS get the best players but did Mets TRY to get the rookie Japanese star that's leading league in homers??? Mendoza ALMOST did the best he could with the roster he had....
The starting rotation stinks, overall, and the hitting sucks too. Lots of injuries, of course, but some of the guys Stearns acquired had a dubious history in that regard. I was hopeful that Polanco, Bichette, Robert and Peralta would come out of the gate doing well, but that was not to be. And how about a rebound year for Vientos? Nope.
But at least Stearns's bullpen is a good one—from top to bottom, I think.
And I do like the kids that were promoted! I enjoy watching them—and Soto!
Hundreds of batting coaches, but the vets' approaches are not that good. But somehow Benge and Ewing seem to have made adjustments.
I don't think, at this point in his career, Carlos Mendoza is a good in-game manager. That being said, he is the least of the team's problems and I think 86ing him would send the wrong message to the young players. The veterans already know where the problems lie.
I’ve been in the camp that this isn’t Mendoza’s fault but at this point we’ve played like shit over the course of 2 seasons with different players so I think it’s time to let him go. I don’t think it’ll make that big of a difference but something needs to be done to shake things up.

Last 56 games of the 2025 season (games 107–162): 21–35.
First 56 games of the 2026 season (games 1–56, as of late May 2026): 23–33.
Combined over those 112 games (non-consecutive): 44–68.
Of course changes should be made. this ineptitude has been going on longer than 2026 season

Carlos Mendoza has a better resume than David Stearns.
