The Mets lose after blowing a late lead thanks to some defensive miscues. Plus, does the leash on Jeff McNeil need to be short with Acuña waiting in the wings?
Nice thing about McNeil, which is a bad thing as well, is he is a Jack of all trades but a master of none. At this stage of his career, I believe he is best suited for the role of utility. But not a starter. I was happy when Sterns said he wanted a constant influx of youth with the roster. Well, here is the time to start by making Acuna the starter while McNeil gets to ride the bench.
I love the squirrel, but the Mets need to be honest here. Acuna should be starting at 2B and Jeff is a bench player at this point. Still has a role on this team but not like he used to
Jeff looked all of his 33 years (wish I was that young) when he tried to bend over & snare the sharply hit ground ball. Any other ball would have been manageable but he wasn't even able to knock it down and limit Crews to 1st or 2nd. This is a wake up call to tighten defense up.
Indeed. Hopefully just first game rustiness but the Mets aren’t going to run away and hide from this division so they can’t afford sloppy defense. The Braves will be good and the Phillies will go on a tear at some point
The Mets didn’t bring back Iglesias because they wanted to give young guys opportunities. McNeil is 33. Was awful and/or injured last year. Time to move on. Start Acuna put McNeil on the bench. I’d honestly prefer Baty than McNeil at this point.
Painful loss. I agree that Acuna has to play in one position or another and should get at least half the starts at 2nd. I don't know how Acuna looked when he played center in AAA and playing McNeil there may be a reach. The solution has to consider that Tyrone Taylor has become close to an automatic out.
I’m not really sure if McNeil could play CF but as good as Taylor is in the field, he’s a zero at the plate and can’t play every day. McNeil looks slow. I think Acuna gets to that ball and keeps it in the infield.
Acuna's skills are more varied, and he offers something that not many in lineup offer, exceptional speed. He'd be my 2b, and McNeil would be my utility guy at 2b, outfield, dh.
Mets could have used Seth Lugo and/or Zack Wheeler. I know Seth wanted to be a starter.....why wasn't he accommodated?? Was it the management that's not here anymore? And how did we let Zack get away?? What did Mets get?? The Mets DO have a fascinating history with their dealing of starting pitchers. I was alive when Nolan Ryan was a member ofnthe Mets 1969 World Championship squad. 22 yrs old with unlimited potential....hard thrower. The Mets didn't think he could throw ball over the plate. Mets also traded Tom Seaver to the Reds in '77 which REALLY PISSED of Mets fans.

Una derrota ajustada con decisiones arbitrales dudosas y ya nos ponemos nerviosos y empezamos a buscar culpables? Estilo New York Mets...
