A positive spin is that the team has a promising future, with some young stars showing what they can do.
Also, an early downfall took some stress out of the season. The team repeatedly gave fans angina with their ups and downs, including September collapses. We knew they were done early this time.
We know there is more. There were missteps and injuries. Growing pains that should have been factored in. Dubious moves.
I STILL want Boy Genius gone. Sorry. I don’t buy the “need consistency” bit. A manager was fired. What consequences did the other guy’s bad moves bring? A promise to keep him.
I have to think that Cohen's vanity prevents him from admitting he made a mistake in hiring Stearns (and it was a protracted seduction at that) and that is what has saved his neck.
Enjoyable group piece. I especially like Mr. Steele's take although what he said about Alvarez recalls the aphorism, "Hope is not a strategy". I'll let my inner John Simon loose: no matter how many sportswriters misuse it, the word "underwhelming" doesn't mean poor, bad, lousy, crappy, or any of those things. It means unimpressive.
Thank you all for a terrific season of good reads. Hopefully, the Just Mets team will stick together for '27.
I do believe that we can all go into long dark tunnel of the offseason knowing that there's a distant light at the end. We'll need another quality starter or two, or three, as well as a lockdown closer. We will also have to figure out how to keep the bats on balls with more consistency. I'm good with Green and it's clear that Cohen recognizes the shortcomings of his chosen genius. Stay away from the dumpsters and pay the price of failure by cutting the dead weight.
I predicted 82 wins for '26, a cautious guess incorrectly figuring we weren't a sub-.500 squad. But boy, we sure were. Let's go Mets!
Good summary of a miserable Mets season from all. To demonstrate just how sorry they were in the first two months, had Mets won those 12 games in a row instead of losing them, they still would have missed the playoffs!
The season wasn't "miserable." They had miserable seasons with nothing much to be happy about. There were things to be happy about. But yes, they could have done much better and missed the season by a few games. Could have been the Diamondbacks.
Fair point. Being out of the running by the end of May made it feel miserable for so long but yes the infusion of good young players made the ending better than the beginning.

Meanwhile … White Sox win. Good luck.
