This had the feel of last season's swoon -- if it wasn't one thing, it was another, and altogether, it was more than one thing. And that was at least one thing too much.

This is supposed to be a playoff team. The mentality when they started to catch up was that you had to win the game. That's what Ron Darling, in effect, said -- it felt like a game they were going to win. Winners have that vibe. Losers find a way to lose.

You hate to talk about "moral" victories, but losing by one run would have been something. It would show the team had fight. I guess that is what you have to take out of it.

Still, I don't like it. Too many problems. And it's not just one game.

I don't know how to provide blame. Is the manager at all at fault? They changed so many things, but kept the manager. Was that a good move?

I think retaining Mendoza was reasonable since in my view last year was basically a collapse of the starting pitching couple with getting almost no help from the trade deadline acquisitions. But it seems to me that unless there's a dramatic turnaround he'll be shown the door soon. Maybe we need a manager with more of an edge. Where's Whitey Herzog? And if this season is a flop, it'll be Stearns' turn to head out. I have to suspect that Lindor's repeated mental lapses are related to some personal turmoil in his life...just conjecture but it's otherwise hard to explain, as Mendoza, to his credit, said. As ugly as things are, it could get uglier soon with the upcoming series against the Dodgers.

I think retaining Mendoza was reasonable, but notice that they replaced the staff around him. They transformed the team in a variety of ways. Except for keeping a few key players, the starting rotation (adding an ace), and the manager. Anyway, it's good they signed an ace, but he also fits into the team's problems. He doesn't go long in games. Thus, they have to stretch the pen, which ultimately is problematic. They need a good innings eater.

My thought too is that if the Mets fail THIS year.....Mendoza may take heat. His job is to inspire & discipline players to avoid mental errors

Wash, rinse, repeat: you stink until you don’t; you’re good until you’re not. Mediocrity, the middle ground, has just trended to the stink side for this team…until they don’t.

Real Mets fans aren't buying what Stearns is selling. This time last year, we were actually selling out and packing Citi Field for mid-week April games. Now? Cohen needs to stop baiting fans with tweets about free ticket giveaways and start focusing on the 💩 heap of a team his "boy genius" built.

Stearns looks like a fraud, and Mendoza needs to be walked out the door before the season is completely lost—though we all know that won’t happen until it’s too late. This roster has zero chemistry. Honestly, I wish there was a mercy rule for this upcoming Dodgers series because it’s going to be a long, painful season.

Right now I can only check in to see what's going on, but overall find they are unwatchable. Senga better get it together, or agree to go down till he finds the missing ingredients. If they win today 8-8 for the first 10%=of the season is unacceptable. Same for all players , time to dig down deep and produce, and for those like Benge you can always be replaced. Time to buckle down and not let the season slip away,!

Almost unwatchable right now. I think Uncle Steve will be giving away a lot of free tix this summer to avoid a half full Citi Field.

I think their current issues lies solely on the manager. It’s his job to motivate and correct issues. They are clearly not motivated, uninspired and lacks focus. I thought this team was built to put the ball in play, reduce the strike outs to help avoid team slumps and play solid defense. Why is it then that players, coaching staff and in theory strategies all changed but the philosophies, strategies and overall play is still the same as last year? Wrong type of players to deal with the NY pressure? Or could it be the front office has way too much say in the every day operations of the team?

Mendy has to go. Why is Benge in left field? Errors in 2 days straight now. He clearly isn’t adjusting well and it would be better to put Baty there or how about Baty at first since Vientos can’t hit again? Benge also seems to be coming around with the bat to which I’d put him in the lead off spot. He can’t be worse than Lindor has to this point. He surely won’t fall asleep on the base paths the way Lindor has so far and he is good for a steal when he gets on as the kid is probably the fastest on the team. Alvy should be in the 6 hole or higher now. If he hits 9 ever again this season I’ll be screaming. Why is Senga throwing sweepers to left handed hitters? He threw 9% to righties and 22% to lefties!! Which Soderstrom said thank you very much and parked it. Senga’s velo was down again too. I know he hit 98 but that was fleeting and he was more 94/5 with his flat fastball which is where he can’t be. I don’t have much faith in ending the losing today either. The A’s should be fouling off as many pitches as they can to get Peralta’s pitch count up getting him out in the fifth if not sooner and feast on a spent bullpen. If I can figure that out I’m definitely sure they will. They also have the line up to do it. I don’t know what is going on with Lindor but maybe he should sit a game. Mauricio is here is give him a start at SS and see if the day off gives him a reset because he is killing this team right now. It would allow the whole line up to change too. I’d stick Benge in the lead off and roll from there. I’d stick Alvy in the 4/5 hole. A shake up is needed and just because this team almost came back it wasn’t enough. Almost doesn’t win anything. Encouraging? Not really. This team was sold to us as being a team that would score runs. We were told to expect good pitching and run prevention. That ain’t what I saw yesterday and haven’t seen much of it so far this season. 2025 is still lurking around this franchise and the only tie to it left is Mendy and a couple players who aren’t going anywhere with big contracts or we weren’t able to move like Senga and Petersen and Manaea. You are guaranteed pretty much to win 60 and lose 60 in a baseball season. What you do with the other 62 defines your season. I hope this start isn’t the latter.

I think sitting Lindor for a game or two is a good idea and trying Benge at leadoff and moving up Alvarez are all good ideas. If someone had told me before the season started that both Robert and Alvarez would hit, I'd never dream they'd be in their current situation.

Lindor does look lost a lot of the time and Benge does seem to be a bit better at the plate (although also a bit careless in the outfield). Why not try this? Mauricio still looks like a wild swinger, but he's only had a few at balts. And Peralta needs to go deeper into the game. Seven years at $28m/year?! No way.
