If the offer of 3 for 90 is true, that makes him the highest paid 1st sacker I think. The player needs to control his agent, not the agent controlling the player

In many ways Pete Alonso deserves to be a lifetime Met. However, just because he's a home grown talent and a fan favorite does not mean he and Boras can bend Stern over a barrel. The Mets, Stern, have given Alonso many offers and opportunities to sign a fair contract. I agree a decision needs to be made sooner than later. At first I was all about signing him but at this point I'm content with moving on from Pete. And realistically, a one dimensional player (home run or strike out), Pete would not offer much protection for Soto or lengthen out the roster.

Bumbling Boras is now in danger of screwing his marquee client - Soto - along with Pete. Yes, Boras got Soto what he wanted but Soto is now saddled on a team with he and Lindor and not much else in the way of lineup protection.

And let's not blame this entire fiasco on Boras - Pete knows the offer and I'm sure he knows Cohen's phone #. He could end this with one call and still get a generational contract.

On the other hand, Stearns is looking at pure numbers and obviously thinks he can replace Pete for less $$$, so only the fans lose a crowd fave.

I agree. 3 year for 90 is the middle ground. Alonso is screwing himself into the ground and letting his agent hold the screwdriver.

I say ok Pete - take the offer with buyouts every year and end this. You will be the victim - not the Mets. They will build the team with or without you. You can then go to a second level team and say goodbye to ever getting to World series Champs. The longer u stay stubborn the more I hope you don’t get an offer to be a MET. SOTO NEEDS A HITTER For protection - not another Dave Kingman. Yes, I have been a Met for a long time and ready to say goodbye to you

When Alonso turned down the 7-year extension and hired Boras, he essentially forfeited his “potential forever Mets” status in my book. Now he’s just a Boras free agent trying to maximize his income. I don’t blame him, but I don’t think the Mets owe him a hometown premium. If he signs a 3/$90M contract, with opt-outs, he’s getting a massive premium as he’ll be the highest paid 1B in history and make more than Freeman, Harper, or Vlad. Apparently the Mets put that on the table so if he signs that, great. Per Baron today, Boras has apparently come back with a counter. Maybe they are getting close, but I bet he’s asking for even more, like 3/$105M with two opt-outs.
