Maybe Stearns shouldn't have pinned his "ace" hopes on a guy who notoriously rarely goes more than five innings, especially on a team that had bullpen struggles the last couple of years.
Maybe Stearns is too wedded to a computer and not enough to how professional baseball is actually played.
I look through the minor league results everyday and wonder about the Mets so-called development system. See a lot of guys who are overage for level, underperforming the level. 26 year old 1st baseman in AA who arent hitting their weight the last two years. It would be fascinating to look at a chart that showed each MLB organization's cumualative batting and pitching stats to see where they compare overall. If you wanted you could split Arizona based teams from Florida based, to spotlight any anamolies that came from that.
I always ask the same question, but never receive an answer. Which pitcher(s) would you have wanted Stearns to acquire and what would you have been willing to give up to get them? It's one thing to bitch about the current rotation, but unless you can offer a viable solution, you should really pipe down!

Benge is outperforming Nimmo.
Semien is outperforming McNeil.
The combination of first basement used (Polanco, Vientos, Baty, Young) haven't been significantly worse than Alonso.
Injuries have played a huge role in the team's poor first half of the season, in addition to a poor start from Bichette. The inability of the starting pitchers to give any length has continued to be an issue. That's on Mendoza. Instead of pushing his starters to get through innings, he'll yank them with less than 100 pitches thrown! His pension to bring in a relief pitcher with 2 outs in an inning and then have him come back out to start the next inning is also a problem.
I seem to remember Vegas oddsmakers ranking the Mets highly as a World Series contender. Sometimes things don't work out, but there are usually visible explanations.
I was calling for Stearns to sign Ranger Suárez this past winter as a free agent. But he got five years and $130 million from Boston. I would have done that deal.
This is 100% accurate. I had major doubts about Stearns BEFORE the season started. This is exactly how NOT to run a team, but to ruin it. Nobody seems to know what the f*^k they are doing. The philosophies change from moment to moment. The sad thing is, this is not going to get any better. Not until the next GM (Eppler again?!?) and coaches and the majors AND minors have a plan.
Lightning in a bottle is a terrible philosophy, which has plagued this franchise for many years.
Meanwhile, the Braves keep showing the Mets how to run a franchise properly.

We’ve played .500 since April 19th. I totally agree that our pitching half the time isn’t even competitive. We have a good bullpen though

Don't forget Hefner was here for last season's second half debacle and couldn't straighten it out.
Don't forget that key pitchers were injured which, last I heard, did not involve Hefner running them over with a bullpen cart.
Cohen has to be thinking, "what did I get for all that dough"? I think offensive side decisions were worse than pitching, though.
