What you cite is an example of what I call Mendoza's "robotic" managing. The icing on the cake is that I've read that Melendez' stats show he doesn't have a righty/lefty split. I see that yesterday for the first time, I think, since he was promoted that Ewing only got on base once. I share your high hopes but I'd give it some time.
The Mets had decent to good starting pitching, sound relief, and took advantage of a sub-.500 teams' bullpen. A path to a winning series. Scott had a decent start. If that holds, you have to carefully handle McLean (growing pains), and you are left with one problem in the rotation. Okay.
