Old Timers Day scheduled for August 27
The Mets are hosting their first Old Timers Day since 1994
With the Mets set to kickoff their 60th anniversary in 2022, the Mets will hold a long-awaiting Old Timers Day on Saturday, August 27 before their game against the Rockies at Citi Field.
The Mets announced on Tuesday a guest list of over 40 former Mets players for the 5:00 PM Old Timers Game, including original Met Frank Thomas, Ron Swoboda, Jon Matlack, Felix Millán, Mookie Wilson, Howard Johnson, Bobby Ojeda, Robin Ventura, Turk Wendell, Endy Chávez, Cliff Floyd and Daniel Murphy.
“I plan on taking some BP before the game,” the 92-year-old Thomas explained. “I hit homers at the Polo Grounds and at Shea. I would love to hit one at Citi Field.”
This will be the first Old Timers Day held by the Mets since 1994.
“Bringing back Old Timers’ Day was one of the most passionate requests I heard from our fans,” Mets CEO and Owner Steve Cohen said in a statement. “As we celebrate our 60th Anniversary season, having these legendary players return to the ballpark to hear cheers from Mets fans once again is the perfect way to honor our past.”
