Here is what Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters on Saturday morning at Citi Field:
The Mets will start Kodai Senga in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series. Sean Manaea will start Game 2 and Luis Severino will start Game 3
The Mets are hopeful Senga can pitch on regular rest later in the NLCS
Giving Severino extra rest was a factor in their rotation decisions, given the number of innings he has thrown in 2024
If Jeff McNeil comes through fine in his Arizona Fall League game today, he is very likely to be activated for the NLCS
The club hasn’t decided what role McNeil will play if he is activated, but that decision along with the matchups against the Dodgers will help determine if the Mets cut a pitcher or a cut a position player to accommodate McNeil
The Mets decided to hold a workout today in New York because they didn’t know where they were traveling to until late last night. They did not want to fly cross country, then hold a workout in Los Angeles, either. They will fly to Los Angeles this afternoon
I hope they keep Acuna and cut either Ottavino or Young if McNeil is recalled. Acuna has some magic in him, imo.
I'm with them whatever they decide to do. So far, so good!
