Btw, "LF Carson Benge (left wrist) is day-to-day with a bone bruise in his hand; all imaging came back negative" is contradictory. A bone bruise is basically focal bone marrow edema. It's diagnosed by MRI, not anything else. So, some of the imaging is indeed positive, but of course far less serious than it could have been.
I could tell from looking at the lineup....and the starting pitcher, that this was one of those throwaway games. Luckily the Mets aren't in the midst of a race as in the past when Mendoza would present an inferior lineup for an important game.
I know it's majority opinion that Stearns got his baseball savvy at the clearance sale at Macys, but he had to play some role in Milwaukee's success. Brains don't abandon you overnight. His off-season was dreadful by any measure. But let's look at the recent sell-off of seven to get 12. Mostly expiring contracts (except for Weaver and Brazoban), a contract where Holmes was open to extension, and 50 more games of four more guys. You got back 12 youngsters. If the Mets development system is better than average (hold on, we'll get to that in a minute), then five of these guys could be contributors to a big league club (ours or someone else's). I think Mets development system is better than popular belief holds. Look at the guys who excite us now. They came through our system. And several more seem on the brink. (Although some who came through our system - Baty and Vientos - have had their chance.) If 4 or 5 of these 12 turn out to be reliable major leaguers - with one or two at the All Star level - and the others help bring back talent that is ready to play if we have a season in 2027, I am willing to (and in fact hoping to) say Stearns & Co. made lemonade out of lemons. (Notice I did not say "garbage," Keith.)
Mets are frustrtating the hell out of me with their prospect use. Aiden Robbins needs to be an everyday in the lineup guy, not the casual use they are giving him. He was a third round pick out of college, he should not be starting in Low A. And if he is, he is set and forget in the lineup. Same thing with Aiden Smith. Some of the acquired AA guys could have been put in AAA as far as i am concerned. Rojas and Vitre for sure.
The other thing is to caution people hoping for their fiuture stardom. I think Stearns was clear that he wanted guys who he might able to trade later on to help the big league team next season. So these guys aren't necessarily in the Mets plans in Queens, but as chips over the Winter.
And nice pick up on the waiver wire of Arias. Give him a regular look down the stretch run around the infield, see if you got a player. Maybe even revitalize a guy back into the prospect/asset he once was. Cleveland was in a malaize, as was he. Maybe kick in the ass will wake him up
